It is my understanding that Monterey Peninsula CC has two great courses (Shore and Dunes). I can offer a full report on MPCC after MLK weekend when I am finally taking the trip to Pebble Beach and will be playing MPCC.

Worst course in this arena I have played is Muirfield Village Country Club.

If anyone is looking for photo tour ideas, some of these second courses would be nice.

I'd love to see some pics of WF East or Oak Hill West.

What's the other course at Westchester like?

Matt- The 2nd course at Westchester or the South Course is wonderful. Travis had a flatter piece of property to work with and although not as difficult or dramatic as the West a memorable and fun walk. The greens on the South do not have as much movement or slope as it`s big brother but are interesting nonetheless. #4 is a really fun downhill 150 yard 3 par that require sprecise club selection when taking into account the elevation change and wind. William Flynn,Joe Finger and Reese Jones have all tinkered with the golf course over the years.

I actually prefer Portrush Valley to Dunluce.  In any case, the pair are totally different and make a very good team.

I also think Burnham's second course is well worth the effort if playing the Championhsip course.  There are some cracking holes to be had for very little money.

Ciao

I cant find it on the search but I am sure we had a thread on this....I may have even started it??

Agree with Sean that the Valley is a success as a second course but not sure I would go as far to say it is a stronger course than the Dunluce.

A few people prefer Gullane No. 2 to No. 1.  I think the back 9 at No. 2 is as good in places as anything at No. 1, and it has been said before that No. 3 has a good set of greens.

I enjoyed the Weyhill at Saucon- it could be that they have 3 really good courses!  Not that I have played the others but I have heard good things.
2011 highlights- Royal Aberdeen, Loch Lomond, Moray Old, NGLA (always a pleasure), Muirfield Village, Saucon Valley, watching the new holes coming along at The Renaissance Club.
