Research about Sherbrooke Golf Club
« on: October 25, 2011, 11:00:26 AM »
Hi all,

I'm currently working on a masterplan at Sherbrooke Golf Club, in Sherbrooke Québec.

The course was built in 1923 and after spending time on the course, it is obvious that the routing is too good to be the work of somebody who had no idea what he was doing. Some hole setup too well for that.

Considering the date 1923, the proximity with the US border and the presence of a strong and wealthy English (the language, not the country) community at the time, I could thnk of some architect venturing there at the time.

Does Sherbrooke Golf Club figure on the list of courses by an architect you may know ?

Thanks.. no real historical trace in club history yet

No chance it is Thompson?

Ki-8-EB (my mom's family's old club) was around the same time.

It's not on Thompson list of courses presented by the Stanley Thompson Society, I think they have a pretty complete list.

Philippe,

I won't be home for a while, but if you can remaind me I''l check the Canadian Golfer magazines from that era. I'm usually able to find the architect once I know the dates of formation or opening.

regards,

Ian
