Mark,

I echo your sentiments about Brandon Johnson's redesign at Wexford.  It is a special place.  Also, a big thank you to Eric Smith and Mike Whitaker for coordinating this event.  Finally, it was a pleasure meeting so many new faces as well as catching up with those that I have met at past GCA events.  I look forward to seeing you all again soon.

The trip was exceptional.  Ill post some photos in the next few days.  And I hope to show how good Wexford is.  Brandon...Great job!!!

But with all that said, it all paled in comparison to Mark "speech" on the boat back from Haig Point.  Epic!!!

Thanks to Eric and Mike for a great weekend. Sorry to miss the Super Bowl at Ward`s but I was motivated to hit the road and catch the 2nd half in North Carolina which saved me about 250 miles of driving today. The 3 highlights for me were Wexford, Mark P`s running  commentary on the ferry ride home from Haig Point and watching Jamey Bryan consume the true Breakfast of Champions which of course is a Bloody Mary and a Butterfinger. Can`t wait until TO4. ;D

Pritchett's posture makes me wonder where Big Country's right hand is.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Mark is getting really good at this public speaking thing.   His speech at Kinloch at last year's Dixie Cup was the highlight of the weekend!

I'll give it a shot, Left to Right:

Tim Gavrich, Joel Zuckerman, Mike Whitaker, Me, Ron Csigo, Jason Mandel, Bruce Wellmon, directly behind Bruce is Brandon Johnson, Ward Peyronnin, Mike Hogan, Jamey Bryan, Tim Martin, Mike Christensen, Mac Plumart, Mark Pritchett, Chris Shaida, our fearless leader Eric Smith

I don't know why my hands are in my pockets, makes me look pretty stupid!

Thanks Cory!

Thaw Out 3 Sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. Whoever came up with that, I hope you'll attend next year. Brilliant!

The weather, the beer, golf, food, friends, all top notch. Dinner at the Boathouse Friday night had to be as good a time as any I've had down there. You all made it mucho bueno.

When we tee'd off on Friday it was sunny and 65 degrees. Saturday, sunny and 70. And finally on Sunday it hit 80 degrees. Sunny - of course. THIS IS EARLY FEBRUARY!!! It's going to be tough living in the cold for the remainder of the winter after playing in that sort of weather. What a great trip. What a fun bunch of guys we had for the Thaw Out. As per usual at a gca outing, everyone became fast friends before it was all said and done.

We met on Friday at Palmetto Hall and played the Robert Cupp course. Here are a few shots from this fun golf course with a most unusual design.

1st green from behind

8th 110 yds Par 3 with a great big slope to play off of

11th 300 yds Par 4. Fairly straightforward from the tee until you find that anything played center fairway has to contend with BIG BERTHA.

Bertha.

You really need to play to the boundaries on either side in order to get a glimpse of the boomerang shaped green.

This is not the preferred angle of attack.

More later.

Hi Anthony,

No Redans on the Cupp Course.  Stay tuned for the two that we played at Wexford.

Great group and Wexford is an eyepopper of a redo based on the photos. Cupp strikes me as way too unheralded so I'd like to see some course profiles of his work. I played one in Birmingham (Old Overton?) but I was disabled that day...

Terry, my review of Beacon Hall (a GW top-5 Canadian modern), a Cupp design: http://onegolferstravels.blogspot.com/2012/01/beacon-hall-golf-club-review.html

Sorry for the threadjack.

On topic but not adding much, Wexford does look really interesting.

Wexford was the highlight of the trip for me, even if I did only get to play 13 holes, damn wife!  I was impressed with the variety of looks from the tee as well as the unique greens.  The course flows very well.

You know I went on a spree in '83. Skiing in Switzerland, a little golf in Scotland, sailing and fishing off the coast of Mexico, swimming in Hawaii. And on my way to that city by the bay with it's restaurants and ambiance, San Francisco, I decided to stop over in Duluth, to catch my breath.

But you know what? It took my breath away! And I could've saved myself a lot of traveling and you know why?

Because it's all right here - Duluth. Who loves you baby? I do.
