Anthony that is the pleasure of PV a player of any ability can make some good scores as the holes are fair, it is however the way the course punishes the poor shots that makes it a killer.

Our host plays off around 13, he will bet any player of any ability giving them two shots on every hole they will not win every hole. Apparently he's yet to lose the bet!

I was lucky enough to tag along with JT at Pine Valley.  The man played out of his mind.  Let me describe JT's game.  He only hits it about 190-200 yards with his driver but always hits it dead straight.  The man has the short game of a 2 handicap and he putts lights out.

Birdie #1 - Hole #8 -  He hits is drive down the right side of the fairway and has approximately 115 yards to the left green.  The flag is on the right hand portion of the green.  He knocks his approach to 15 feet left but above the hole.  Barely get his ball rolling, dead center!

Birdie #2 - Hole #17 - Again, another perfect draw into the center of the fairway leaving a 135-yard uphill approach.  Hits his approach shot long onto the back collar of the green.  The hole is cut to a middle right hole location leaving him one of those putts where if the ball doesn't hit the hole, it's off the green.  JT puts a smooth stroke on it again and DRAINO!

Pandemonium ensues!!!  Hugs & high fives all around.  What a joy to share that moment.

And now, as Paul Harvey used to say, the rest of the story...

Taking my best 9 holes yesterday relative to par (4 from the front nine, 5 from the back nine), I was 3 over.

Taking my worst 9 holes yesterday relative to par (5 from the front nine, 4 from the back nine), I was 19 over.

I think that perfectily illustrates the the experience an 18.1 index can have at Pine Valley....while it is possible to post reasonably good scores on a number of holes, the punishment meted out by the course for missed shots is severe indeed.

If I would have been there, I would have been escorted off the property after that putt on 17. Happy for you and Cheech.

I don't have to go to Pine Valley to play like that. Wine Valley and any number of other courses do just fine. ;D

I went back to the thread and counted 8 pars. Although the score reporting was not complete from the thread and recollection I come up with 8 pars, 3 bogeys, 4 doubles, and 3 triples. That makes 1 over for best 9 holes, 19 over for worst 9 holes.

JT easily has the best short game I've ever seen for an 18.1 index.  Nice work bagging 2 birds.

Look up sandbagger in the dictionary and you'll see a picture of JT.

Caution:  if you do this, take your anti-nausea meds first.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Mark, please contact your host and tell him that I would like to take him up on this wager. When you get the chance, let me know his availability for said match ;)

Brian, when you get it setup, I'll be the match judge.

Brian I'll introduce you when he next comes to Deal. Accepting the bet doesn't get an invite though!
