That's Garland's point. The OP is confusing TOC with Royal Liverpool, where Woods famously only hit driver once in 72 holes.
Yes, I was referring to his comment that he couldn't have won at St. Andrew's without hitting driver. I disagree with this statement. And he wasn't blowing it by everything at The Old Course that year. Certainly at Liverpool he didn't need driver. He hit many more drivers at St. Andrew's, but the driver wasn't the main reason he won. Knowing when to hit driver, and knowing when not to....and he had a pretty decent short game that year too.
Not going into a single bunker for four rounds is incredible. But not because of carrying them...because of missing them on the left and right and around the greens.
