Looks great!

Is it fair to assume that these will instantly be 2 of the top 3 courses in Florida?

What are 2 and 3 right now? Calusa Pines and Mountain Lake? Or Indian Creek?

Most of those pictures are of Bill and Ben's Red course ... there are a couple of our first and seventh holes taken from the top of the hill by our first tee.

The golf courses are projected to open sometime around one year from right now.  As far as nearby hotels, you could either go for the Best Western in Bowling Green / Wauchula [ask for Bill Coore's suite!], or up to Lakeland where most of our crew stayed.  It's about a half hour drive down from Lakeland.

I think the number two and three courses in Florida right now [according to the magazines] would be the TPC at Sawgrass and maybe World Woods.  So, no problem, we should easily beat those right out of the blocks.  ::)

If the two new courses opening at Streamsong can top Calusa, TPC Sawgrass and Old Memorial, I will 100% be making the drive from Miami as soon as the courses are available to play!

I grew up in FL and have played a lot of golf there over the years and have been typically underwhelmed w/ the golf despite the number of courses and the acclaim of many.  (FWIW, when I moved to Michigan, I was shocked at how good the golf is here).

I think for me, part of it has been just a fairly uninspiring landscape, but I've followed the Streamsong stuff since I first heard about it and looks like it could be an interesting place and piece of land for a course.  Looking foward to making a trip down there after it opens...have really like the Doak and Coore/Crenshaw stuff I've played so excited about this property.

Mr. Doak, any info on this piece of property and how its working out for your team?  Any intersting opportunities /challenges of the unique piece of land?

Dustin:

I've already said quite a bit about the project in the back pages here.  Of course, architects always talk about how special their latest project is, so I don't know that it is that meaningful for me to gush about it; the real test will come when some other people kick the tires.  I think Brad Klein might be going out there shortly ...

Our course is completely grassed now and will have a full year to grow in before it's open.  I'm hoping to go down in January or February to hit balls around it with a few friends and get some feedback.  I am excited to play both courses and see how they compare.  Bill's course has several greens or hazards I would never have thought to build myself ... it's kind of not fair that he can surprise me more than I can surprise myself!  However, I have to say I'm really happy with the holes in the middle of our course that were the ones the client was worried might turn out to be less exciting ... we seem to have risen to the occasion on those.

I hate to be the resident cheapskate, but do you know what non-resort greens fees are going to be (both before and after the resort opens)?  I have family in Lakeland.

I know these courses intertwine. Any reason why a composite course would pop up? Or will that be left to us junkies?  ;)

Alex:

We have joked throughout the project that people on Bill's course are just going to skip over to ours when they get to #16 tee, so they can get in a few extra holes for the price of their green fee.  But, I don't really know what would be the point of playing a Composite course from the two.  They are both full of good holes, and the last thing either design team would want is for someone to come up with a composite that takes out some of the shorter par-4's on either course, as we feel those are some of the most compelling holes in the plan.  Plus, I don't think they have any interest in hosting a tournament, it's a little out of the way for that.

Justin:

I am sure that the management team is thinking about what they should charge people, but I am sure that no decisions have been made, because I don't believe they have ever signed the contract with the management company yet.  Last word was that it would be managed by Kemper Sports with a hotel management company partner ... so I would expect similar pricing to Bandon Dunes and to the other top resort courses in Florida.

How are those courses both not 1 & 2?
The fairways, greens and bunkering are better than Seminole.
I doubt the routings suck.
Thinking of Bob, Rihc, Bill, George, Neil, Dr. Childs, & Tiger.

so where are we all going to stay next winter if the courses are open but the resort doesn't open till the following fall?

It's not going to be at a Four Seasons or Ritz Carlton.

The resort site is approx. 5 miles west of Fort Meade, according to the local CVB (http://www.visitcentralflorida.org/destinations/streamsong)

So....

Here are the most popular Best Western and Holiday Inn Express hotels on this board from Q4 2012 when the courses open until fall 2013 when the resort is expected to open:

Best Western Heritage Inn & Suites (~16 miles away)
2727 US Highway 17 N
Bowling Green, FL

Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites (~12 miles)
1565 North Broadway
Bartow, FL 33830

There's also a B&B in Bartow:

The Stanford Inn Bed & Breakfast
555 E Stanford St
Bartow, FL 33830

So the Coore/Crenshaw course will be the Red Course.  What color is the Doak course going to be?

We put Red and Blue on the original plan, and I think we've convinced them to keep those names.

That leaves the door open for someone to come in and build the "White" course later ... if they tear up another 300 acres to make some more interesting ground!  [I'm just kidding.  We've pretty much used up everything they had.]
