Ganton in winter

Well-drained Ganton is one of our better inland courses. Check out its winter green fees: http://www.gantongolfclub.com/Visitors/Winter-Green-Fees.aspx

Mark,

Ganton is a little haven of gloriousness seemingly in the middle of nowhere!  I used it as a warm-up round for my Open Qualifier at Alwoodley 5 years ago and it is a real test - superb bunkering!  Are mats required in winter?

Cheers

I've never seen mats or temporary greens used at Ganton.

I thought it was a bargain at £90 for the day in the summer.

Maybe Arble will take the winter tour there.

If one were to choose to dramatically re-organize his/her life, and pick himself/herself up lock, stock and barrel, and change homes and jobs and drag families half way across the world, and if one did all this only so as to be a short train ride from Ganton and to play it a couple of times a week, all year long and year in and year out -- if someone were to do such a thing, I wouldn't think him/her kooky or misguided but very very sane.  So many hands involved in shaping the course over so many decades, and yet it looks so much all of one piece, all cut from the same cloth; and the flowers and the chruch steeple -- ahh, to have karma good enough that one day you'd come back as the head professional at Ganton, a goal much to be desired.

 8) When I played at Ganton back in 1996, I remember my host describing it as an "inland links" ...  and speaking of train rides.. i travelled there from Broadway very early one morning to play.. so living in York or anywhere in Yorkshire would be very nice indeed
