Thought it's a Park/Ross design, I will mark this as the first time I've even heard or thought about Minneapolis Golf Club.  Good to see they are getting some press.

As for the idea that the True type of shoes is more destructive to turf than a shoe like Foojoy Icon or Adidas Adipure is pure bunk.  This club seems to be lumping all spikeless shoes together.  As one who owns both the Freddie shoe and the True shoe, there is a clear difference between the outsole of both. 

Maybe they could put a bit of topdressing down and water a bit less?

This is comical and silly. I am not sure which of these are real answers, which are touts for a product and which are just playing along laughing. Any course that bans any of these shoes needs to check their green conditions from a maintenance point of view and how much play they get.

Much to the dismay of several of my members (some of them very vocal), I did ban the "Freddie" shoes last winter, and will do so again when the conditions warrant.  

In the Santa Cruz area we play golf all year.  On my push-up greens, mowed to a tenth of an inch, the nubs leave a very noticeable mark which lasts for quite a while. It affects the putting much more than soft spikes (r in a circle) and...don't get me started on those.

The players now understand, and when conditions are right they are allowed to wear them.  
Most golfers have more than one pair of shoes, just like they have more than one putter, or driver, etc.

Just because a manufacturer makes, markets and sells something doesn't mean it works in all situations at all times.

Can't believe that Pete and Minneapolis GC are conspiring to rid the world of comfortable golf shoes. Or maybe per chance, there is something to these shoes and how they are on certain greens.

Another tempest in a teapot.  When softspikes first came out, they were alternatively viewed as saviors or menaces.  Accidents from slippage were predicted.  Some even suggested that metal spikes served to aerate greens.  As for me, I tend to ask the Greenkeepers what they think and then test their views as to whether they are based on observation or prejudice.  Our personal preferences matter little to me; I knew plenty of people who resisted the change to softspikes and now swear by them.  So we should let this play out.  I have a staff agronomist at the CDGA who given an apprpriate grant could test the impact of all the types of shoes on test greens under a variety of conditions throughout a season in the Chicago area.

Ben, Minneapolis is pretty darn good.  I would not call it overwatered.

Ben, Minneapolis is pretty darn good.  I would not call it overwatered. 

I would 2nd this. MGC is in fact a very solid golf course and hardly overwatered, even as an almost prototypical "parkland" course.

I wore the Ashworth version for the first time yesterday. 
They  left whole foot marks on the course (Heritage) whereas the other golfers left no tracks.   The greens were their normal too soft condition, and around 9.5.

I will never wear them again as I felt I was always playing a sidehill lie, I need a bit more heel.  does Freddy wear an insole with a heel in his shoes?

Clubs should allow them on the course, but remove them upon entering the clubhouse as they can track in lots of stuff.

Yes it is. Like I said no one said anything when I wore them on Sunday. The locker room guys know I love them so I would have expected them to give me a heads up.

Not sure what I am going to do if it happens to be true. Barefoot or Nike Free's if it really comes to that.

I took my shoes off to hit a shot out of a pond at Grenelefe in Haines City, FL once (had a buddy standing by to watch for critters). Since it was the first good shot I'd hit on the day, I kept the shoes off. Some resident saw me, and apparently called the pro shop. A couple of holes later a female asst pro drove up and made me put my shoes back on.

Sam I do have eccos. I do love them for walking. I also have lots of soft spike shoes. I actually found a pair of metal spike shoes too. They felt so heavy. lol I am able to play to the rules of any course. But probably would pass on a course that is silly enough to ban eccos or true's.

I think the clubs banning these shoes are the clubs that are old, blue blood clubs where the pro is a Titleist staffer, thus Foot-Joy.

I would doubt that the Pro has much to do with banning shoes at those clubs.

Our Superintendent doesn't allow bare feet on the greens. His rationale:  a bare heel makes more of a cupped indentation than the ones left by shoes, and indentations made by the ball/toes of a bare foot when a player squats to line up a putt do the same.
