Chris,

If you have one of those electric yellow/green jackets left, in L, my friend would like to buy one. As for those bumper stickers, I recall my bill said they cost $5 each. A bit pricey but worth it, so don't drop the price.

I worked the last Husker-Bucky game (1974) overtime at the stadium, and then back for regular midnight shift (State St was my permanent beat).   Wisc, probably pulled off the upset of that year.  At the end of the game, the band led an impromptu parade out of Camp Randall and over to State Street.  I left to go home and catch some zzz's.  When I returned for my shift, we went out totally understaffed to what looked like the last days of Rome.  State st was still a street, drinking was wide open age 18, and the night finally ended about 3Am, with several hauled off to the crowbar hotel, or detox and we escorted the firetrucks in to put out the remaining bonfire in the middle of the 500block front of the Pub. During the festivities, we got into a bit of a mini-brawl, and one of my guys missed his target and sprayed me right across the eyes with mace, with my contacts in!  I'll take a tazer shot instead of that any day.

Then, the Huskers were previous year national champs, I think, and that year ranked 3 or 4 and undefeated in the non-conference game.  This time, the new Big ten Huskers are the 10pt underdog, so if they win, it will hardly be an epic upset.  But, however it goes, a good time will be had by all.

Today, they play it safe, staff the event with more cops than ushers and hotdog vendors at the game, suppress the drinking considerably compared to then, and take far more precautions.  You probably wouldn't even like it nowadays, Dave.   ::) ;) ;D 8)

Quote of the day:  Our son said he was going to watch the Nebraska / Wisconsin game today, and my wife said, "That's, like, beef vs. cheese."

It was a spectacular day here in America's dairyland.  Sparkling clear weather, fun round of golf with best buddies (3 man scramble combined age of our team 214 years old) and that football thingy.  I hope our friends from the sand hills that made the trip had a good time and remember they get us in their house next time...   8)

Geez, this Russell Wilson had the poise and rythm of an NFL QB.   I wonder if he plays golf?   ;D

Tiger, too early to conjure up a Badger-Tiger tangle, but we could have us some fun should it happen....  8)

We had three friends in from Nebraska for the game. Played golf Thursday and Friday. They wanted to play Erin Hills Sat morning but didn't want to miss the festivities (game started at 7:00) so no golf.

Eric, good catch. I meant Badger this weekend. BTW, we have badgers here too. Don't know about eating one, but, an old neighbor was the predator control officer for USDA in these parts. One day he came across a trapped baby badger and let it live. The following year he returned to nearly the same spot and that same badger came up to him and followed him around, becoming a sort of family pet. The badger would walk down the streets, out in front, protecting the man as he walked. Unusual to say the least. BTW, Madison will be a sea of red this weekend too. Husker fans are going to have to get use to only 3k tickets for visiting teams. They are use to traveling, and, with only 3k tix, prices are skyrocketing.

AD Barry Alverez said this game had the highest demand of any game in history. Made last years home hame against #1 Ohio State look tame.

I know Wisconsin fans are scratch at travel - but a good source told me Nebraska will fill up every stadium in the big ten this year.

Mike, I asked a contact for a block of tix the week the game date was announced, and it was a no-can-do.  The Husker insider boosters had all potentially available scarffed up before the official announcement, as I heard it.  Barry's Nebraska roots still bare fruit.  ;)

Heck, NE only  has 3 more away Big ten games.  The only question mark is that they are at Minnesota.  If I lived in Lincoln, I'd rather drive a few hours west on I-80 on Oct 22 and play Awarri Dunes, Wild Horse or even Bayside, than drive all the way to the minnieapple for that snoozer...  ::)

Watched most of the game in the DRC clubhouse. Some unhappy Cornhusker fans as bucky mauled the big red. Talk about controlling the line of scrimmage.

Played 36 yesterday and the course was perfect. Been dry with 15-20 mph winds last 3 or 4 days and was it ever firm and fast, especially around the greens. Lots of side boards and backstops here and you need to use them to get it close. Very fun golf.

Sounds like the perfect day, minus the loss for a Husker fan.  But, aren't you one of the Texas schools backer anyway, Don?  ;D

who does Chris pull for?

RJ - I played (walk-on) for Ohio State (no, I don't have tattoos) and I'm afraid we have a tough year or two ahead following a nice decade long run of success.  Participated in one of the best Rose Bowls ever, losing a close one to the best (top to bottom personnel) college football team (USC 1979) ever to grace a field.  Also, I have a son at Notre Dame and now pull for the Irish, although that came much later on.

LIke golf, I really appreciate good teams every year, and seldom root against a team unless I have a dog in the fight.  Having "Been there", I'm not really into the hype but do enjoy a good game.

John Kavanaugh, Eric Smith and I just played all 18 holes at Toms course.  It was delightful.

Chris,

Speaking of that USC team, a former colleague of mine was a pretty good high school offensive lineman at Beverly Hills high school and was hosted by Anthony Munoz on an official visit.

Munoz wasn't exactly that most gracious host to my friend who stood about 6'3" and 225 and later played at San Diego State.

Shortly after they met Munoz asked my friend whether he planned to try out for the tennis team.

Back to topic, I look forward to seeing Dismal River before too long.

As long as Chris installs the 201 yard markers on the course, I'll take the "Dismal" sticker.  :)

Mac,

Your bumper sticker is on the way.

Michael,

With all those fine pictures all I see is how fat I am and you see doughnuts.  Make you a deal, I'll cut back on the eating and you curb the hating. Neither fits us well.

Eric,

Thanks for posting.  The sand hills region is a very special place, as I'm sure you're finding out.

I haven't been to Dismal but I think I would feel at home there.  Everyone seems to be fat.  I just can't go on the same trip with Mac and I think I'll leave with my self-confidence.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Jason, if your BMI is over 26, you get an early tee time ;D

BedBoss - great pics!  That was a fun weekend.

Michael - the donut is the low part of the bunker - keep the hard pan lie away.  The surrounding part is steep.  Makes for a more pure bunker.
