Modern "template" Holes
« on: September 19, 2011, 12:38:08 PM »
All-

In the spirit of Anthony Gray's post about 17 Sawgrass and potentially being a "Short" hole, I was thinking about the carryover to other golf holes.

Thinking about the traditional "Macdonald/Raynor" course, with use of template holes, does the group think it possible to have holes, that utilize the STRATEGY of the original templates in a more modern design context?

We seem to be in some agreement on the Short.

In other words, one does not have to have "Macdonald/Raynor/Banks" design to have the strategy, the shot requirement from the original template holes.  What are some other holes that the group feels have shot requirements that could carry over?
I hope the architects such as Tom, Mike N, Ian, Mike Y, Lester, and others, weigh in here as well.

If this question is too obtuse, I'll find a way to re-phrase it.
"Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear, or a fool from any direction."
