For every ten of you who will wait for the Doak course to visit one of you will either die or become disabled. I pity those who wait and never see.
John,
What's your market on the following futures spread after both courses are open:
How GCA nerds will split 10 rounds at Dismal vs. how the membership will make the same split.
If you are a dedicated walker you will play the Doak more frequently. Probably 9 to 1. If you are the typical Sand Hills region visitor you will play the courses equally. The one deciding factor will be what choice to make on a round when you only have time for 18 before you leave or arrive late. There is something about being able to see the clubhouse from the Doak course that makes me feel that it will be played more often during time constraints. Even though it may not be a shorter ride back, seeing your destination will bring some comfort.
I personally never see me spending a full day only playing one of the courses at the expense of the other. Unless of course the Doak is full of unaccompanied walking photo booths. I do tend to gravitate to courses where I do not need to wait. Dismal needs all 36 holes and all will get ample play from me and my friends.
The one thing that members may do differently is play the final 10 hole loop of the Doak before catching the bus home. I really like the idea of a nice breakfast, 10 holes and a drive. A 9 am tee off on 10 should not disrupt normal play and preclude a heavy travel sweat.
