New NGLA book: Brassies, Mashies, and Bootleg Scotch
« on: September 07, 2011, 03:48:38 PM »
Cool looking new book, haven't read it yet, just ordered it.  Looks like our Josh Smith was chosen for the artwork, good on him!

Brassies, Mashies, and Bootleg Scotch: Growing Up on America's First Heroic Golf Course

According to the reviews, seems to be some stories in here about Macdonald coming back to see NGLA one more time before he passes...I am sure we can debate that can't we?

Thanks much for the heads up, Chip - I hadn't heard a single thing about this. I'm a big fan of (as one of the reviews put it): "...crisply described and warmly nostalgic anecdotes [though which] a theme emerges: golf courses were different, far richer places in Kilpatrick's father's day than they are today, in our technologically powered age of titanium drivers and automated watering systems."

Wow, I didn't even know it was in production yet.  Can't wait to read it.  Sounds like a cool story.

Mike, please share your thoughts after you read it.
Big drivers and hot balls are the product of golf course design that rewards the hit one far then hit one high strategy.  Shinny showed everyone how to take care of this whole technology dilemma. - Pat Brockwell, 6/24/04
