PGA TOUR has it's own in-house golf course architect ?

Steve Wenzloff.

How much influence does the PGA TOUR have with regard to hosting courses ?

And, what do you suppose are his focuses ?

Patrick:

You must be living under a shell.

The PGA has a division called the PGA Tour Architectural Services.  They built TPC Valencia which is without a doubt the worst of the TPC courses.  Furthermore, they were involved in the renovation at Harding Park in San Francisco.  The politics involved a quid pro quo of bringing the Presidents Cup and other tournaments to Harding in exchange for hiring this architectural team.

Joel,

Sadly I confess that I am living under a shell.

I just don't have much time left to address any of these issue after I respond to the 84 emails that TEPaul sends me every day. ;D

TEPaul knows about the PGA tour architectural services.

Your question about what is their focus is interesting.  In the end they are there to make money for the PGA.  How they do it is suspect?  Personally I think they are taking jobs away from real golf architects.

Joel,

I"m not so sure that they're taking jobs away as the individual club selects the architect, not the PGA Tour.

My GUESS is that they evaluate the course being considered, in terms of the game played by the PGA Tour Pro, and make suggestions, prior to awarding a tournament.

A copy of their job description would clarify the issue.
