Manchester - Only 4 days to play somewhere
« on: August 10, 2011, 09:30:31 PM »
Hi Guys,

I have 3 or 4 days coming up in the U.K post some business meetings and I would like to get my first taste of golf in the United Kingdom.

I'm going to be in Manchester and have very little clue on U.K Geography, so was hoping to get some feedback on where to play in that short period of time.  It wont be the only trip to the U.K so I'm not so concerned about the "must sees" and probably more concerned with things like accessibility and logistically being able to play a number of courses.

I have established that I am probably not far from the Southport Golf Coast so Birkdale, Lytham & St Annes and Royal Liverpool are options but hoping anyone familiar with the area might have some others to add to the list.

Any suggestions or links to some good maps that show where the courses are located across the U.K would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Darren

Darren, there was a fairly lengthy thread on this very subject just last week.  Probably back on page 3 or 4 by now.

For maps, maybe center Google Maps on Liverpool and move around.

Found both threads.  Thanks Bill

My golf there, in Sept 2006, was Hoylake x3, Wallasey and Delamere Forest.  Very good stuff.  Form by and its dormie house also sound great.  I'd also love to have a round with Duncan Cheslett at Reddish Vale (Mackenzie near Manchester).

The Lancashire links courses are around an hour's drive from Manchester - Wallasey would top my wish list and is the most accessible from Manchester.

For something quirky on the doorstep you are most welcome to join me at Reddish Vale, an early and almost complete MacKenzie in great condition.

I heartily commend Reddish Vale - it's no more than twenty minutes from Manchester Airport - and Duncan is good company. If you are feeling fit you could tie that in with 18 holes at Cavendish in Buxton, a late MacKenzie course only half an hour from Reddish Vale. You would be welcome as my guest at Wilmslow.

Everything's set for Thursday 8th Sept at Reddish Vale.  Darren and his business partner then embark on an epic tour of the Lancashire links courses. Make sure you pack your camera, Darren!
