12th hole tee shot at Manele Bay (back tee) Nicklaus originally had the 17th green drawn up where the 12th tee now is which would have set up a great finish.

16th hole tee shot Cypress

16th hole 2nd shot at Pacific

You guys are WAY off... :)

The hardest shots I've ever seen or heard about are at The Golf Club of Georgia Creekside course...

Take your pick on the 5th hole, the tee shot, second shot, or approach/third shot.

MY GOD!!!  Perhaps the worst hole in the history of golf and the hardest shots as well.   :o

And let's not sleep on the 8th hole either...specifically the approach shot.

 :'(

It's hard to think that all three shots on a par 5 that is right around 500 from the tips (and under 400 from the whites) would offer 3 of the potential most difficult shots...what's with the trees short?

The drive on 18 at Ko'Olau.

I thought that was a tough hole.  On the tee I just aimed for the bunker as I figured that was my only chance of getting to the green in regulation.  Apparently it's an easy hole for some people though

For me the toughest shot is a tee shot from an extremely elevated tee to a diagonal fairway.  An example is the 8th at Tierra Rejada from the tips.  After the first play it's probably easier but it's unlikely I'll be playing there again.

I hit three tee shots that I thought were all pretty good.  I think the first one I went too far left, the second one too far right and then the third one was in between them both...couldn't find any of them.

Agreed Joe, sorry you had to play Tierra Rejada though. Also, how did they verify that hole in one? On a straight line the hole still has to be 400 yards or so, and with the soft conditions there I just don't see that one happening.

14 at BT is the toughest hole/approach on the property by the way, Gray.

Alex,

LOL, you are correct but I have more luck at 14...so far anyway,  if you hit a good drive you can have a nice chip... 16 at Pacific I never have a nice chip no matter how I place the drive :P

Before we played Royal Dornoch, our B&B host told us the hardest shot on the course was the second shot on #2.  He was pretty much right.

(For those who haven't played it, it's a par 3 with a turtleback green a la Pinehurst.)

First thought:  The tee shot at #18 Witch Hollow, trying to finish off a respectable round.  Last holes at Pumpkin Ridge make you finish it off.

I may think of other choices.

Opening tee shot at Royal Liverpool into the wind.
Tee shot at Postage Stamp into the wind, possibly with quite a long iron.
2nd shot to 11th green TOC having missed the green.

I have to agree with Mark, and like to add a fourth: the tee shot on the 18th at Carnoustie has always been really tough for me!

Two par 3 second shots at Kingsley from bad misses:  from left of the second green and from long on the 9th (west tee).

Tee shot on par five 14th at Mahogany Run on St. Thomas - cannot be more than 25 yards wide with death on both sides.
