The most under-rated course to hold a major

What's the best, least-well-known course to host a major?

Not Portrush; even thought it hasn't hosted the Open in years, it's generally regarded as one of the top links in the world.

What about Pecan Valley in San Antonio? Julius Boros still holds the record as the oldest winner of a major when he won there in 1968 at age 48. A Press Maxwell design; a friend who played it several years ago said it was quite good.

Brae Burn in West Newton Mass - 1919 U S Open won by Walter Hagen. Does not get mentioned in the same breath as The Country Club but a great Ross course with a stunning clubhouse. They have also hosted the Mens and Womens U S Amateurs as well as the Curtis Cup.

NCR - next door neighbor to Moraine. Have to be the two closest courses to host a major that almost nobody knows about. I havr not played Moraine but really like NCR.

I will go with Pecan Valley because I love the course. I think it's one of the best in Texas and it's not even close. When it's in good shape I think it might even be top 10 in the state. I can't say enough good things about that course and Pine Dunes, I'd play them over maybe any courses in Texas.

Until this last year I was a member of Norwood Hills in St. Louis.  They got lucky when Hogan won the 48 PGA.  Just like Crooked Stick got unlucky when Daly won or Furyk won at Olympia Fields.  Often courses are downgraded because of a boring champion.

John I hate to tell you but Jim Furyk was by the far the most interesting major winner of 2003.
