I particularly like the guy who hopes is this one "takes off" it will somehow miraculously cause the previously failed development across the street to take off as well. I guess it takes more than the meltdown of the last couple years to extinguish magical thinking.

Initially I like the idea,” Aberdeen Mayor Betsy Mofield said. “I’m especially fond of the golf academy. I have five little grandsons and I’d love to have every one of them in that golf academy.”

Hey, there's an original idea. A golf academy !!
Wonder why Pinehurst resort didn't think of that?

Or Pine Needles?

This is such a good idea because Pinehurst Resort is just so overrun with guests and there have been no rooms in the hotel all year.  ::) ::) ::)

Really??

For some reason I don't see this one getting off the ground anytime within the next 40 years.

Faldo was involved in a course development called Cottonwood Hills ( http://www.cottonwoodhills.net/ ) near Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, KS that went under almost immediately after the the course opened a few years ago.  I think they survived a few seasons but the course is now closed and overgrown with weeds and is being reclaimed by nature. Apparently they never even sold a single home.

Fictitious Press Release:

Now that the economy has returned to robust health we are finally in a position to address the shocking lack of golf courses in the Sandhills of N.C.  Although the housing market is in a somewhat desperate state of affairs here, the commanders back on our home planet assure us that we will be able to fill 1,000 additional houses with nice, healthy, golf-centric families.

So between this and the 36 hole Nicklaus development out near Foxfire, our area will just be booming with new development in the next few years!  Yeah right, did they bother to look at all the houses for sale in the Pinehurst area?  If the development across the street at Legacy Lakes is not doing anything, what makes them think they will do better?

Chris:

Who is the developer?

Obviously, I am suspicious.  Is there some sort of advantage to making this "announcement"?

May I inquire to the status of the "sister" 18/resort course, wasn't it?, adjacent to the Dormie by the same developers?

When a group of magazine raters get their panties in a bunch about how the last thing we need is another course for them to play we may have finally hit bottom.

You guys just don't get it.  You are probably the same type of guys who "pooh-poohed" bottled water!   ;)

At one point, they asked if I wanted to do one of these courses, and were talking to Tiger Woods as well.

I'll be interested to see if it moves forward.  It's fairly steep for Pinehurst, on both sides of a central wetland stream valley that runs through the site lengthwise.

The original plan encompasses 774 acres. An optional 82-acre international golf institution and a 24-acre wildlife adventure and water park are also part of the plan.

Me thinks this will never materialize. Golf in the morning, hot the water park midday and then drive the range rover with the family thur 24 acres of wild animals....

No thanks.

A pity!  ;D
"I said in a talk at the Dunhill Tournament in St. Andrews a few years back that I thought any of the caddies I'd had that week would probably make a good golf course architect. We all want to ask golfers of all abilities to get more out of their games -caddies do that for a living." T.Doak
