What did u think of Canton Brookside and UofM?

I can't really say anything that hasn't been said.  If you are asking as a head to head comparison I liked Brookside more.  Like others have said brookside has some great greens.  UofM would be an amazing place to be a student for the golf course alone.  The one critique I have is my dislike for in course OB.  I want to play OSU scarlet to see which big 10 course is the champ.

My place was closed for two days, so I played Honeybrook and Wyncote in the last 3 weeks.   Both very fun daily fee courses in Chester County, PA.   IIRC, Wyncote was #3 new public in 1993 (Golf Digest). 


I actually took in the eclipse at Wyncote.  Great experience - we had about 75% coverage, and about 10 minutes afterward, the wind died and it got about 5 degrees (f) cooler.   30 minutes later, the wind was back and it was once again hot and muggy.

Two buds and me bid on an accompanied round there through First Tee and loved Peachtree so much we did so again last year.
A pure golf experience it's a course I could play everyday, has great variety of holes with pristine conditions.
Hard par easy bogey (no pun) for me with ample opportunity for recovery.
Seemed more open this time but could have been just my imagination.
Peachtree and Mountain Lake are my two favorite places in the southeast  to play the game.

Of course you didn't ask me but I have to say I totally agree. I was very fortunate to have paid my first visit to Peachtree last month. I was lucky to have a perfect summer morning on a relatively cool day, maybe it was like 80 degrees rather than 100 degrees. The course was absolutely perfectly maintained even in the heat of summer, and what a great property for golf it is. It's by far the best RTJ routing I've ever seen and honestly having just visited St. Georges in Toronto last week the similarities are readily apparent. I echo your sentiments about this club being an ideal club for daily play.

I was pleasantly surprised by Barton Hills.  The greens are a very interesting set which allow for some odd hole locations.  There are too many bunkers for my taste, especially the many blind bunkers...mind you the fairways are fairly generous.  The two blind ponds are a serious blot.  The back nine is very good golf indeed.  All in all, its a good course and I liked it.  To put things in perspective, I don't think it is quite as good as unheralded Birmingham near Detroit.  The bones are there for a better course, but that is nearly always the case.

To generalize South America would not be my first choice of golf destinations, especially compared to places like Australia, New Zealand, UK, Ireland or even the US. However, it's hard to compare the cultural experience with anything else.


In terms of courses a small few are way above the rest I guess. Santapazienza and Ellerstina are perhaps the two best experiences and both don't even constitute golf clubs as they both only really have 1 or 2 members and the only way to play is to know that one person and have them invite you. Then I'd say Gavea is a spectacular experience and the Olympic course while not spectacular for me is a really solid course.


Those the biggest standouts. There are some other solid courses and places like the Jockey Club are interesting but the current version is hardly the Alister Mackenzie version having been tinkered with considerably.


I'm looking at doing a couple course tours given the unique nature of a couple of the above mentioned.
