Carl, how was Punta Espada?

Jay:
I thought it was really good.  There's a landform in that part of the DR (can't remember the name of it) that's a bit like an elevated plateau, and that they used to create some interesting holes away from the water.  They also had access to a lot of (spectacular) waterfront and used that land to create an interesting set of holes that were quite varied--some playing directly at the water, some playing directly away from it, others playing along it but in different directions, etc.  I played it twice and those holes, especially, required me to hit lots of different shots.

What did you think of Longniddry?

Ciao

a very peaceful place-grass cut short-fun and playable.
sort've a hybrid parkland/heathland with a seaside setting?
undulating terrain
#5 is the greatest elevation change I've ever seen on a green-about 20 feet!
Enjoyed the holes in theattractive  pines-a few new plantings which looked a bit silly in spots.
Tom Doak had compared it to the Monterrey Peninsula, and while there was a bit of that feel, I kept waiting for the ocean holes to emerge from the woods-they didn't, though it was near and hidden behind trees and houses

I'd say the sum is greater than the parts as I really enjoyed it-didn't play very well as it was preceded by a rather late evening in Gullane ;)
I think Tom got kt about right in the original CG, where I first heard of it.
great old school pro-spent a bit of time with him in his workshop

Not to pick on anyone in particular, but it's fairly ironic that Sven started this thread to prove that many guys play regular local tracks and it's rather unsurprisingly turned, for the most part, into something else.

True ... but also entirely predictable from this group.

I can't really think back past my last trip:

Medinah #1 [in the grand opening]
Traigh
Isle of Harris
Askernish
The Renaissance Club

Talk to me about Isle of Harris - long wanted to visit.

Jeff - so Longniddry isn't worth skipping a game at North Berwick for the once in a blue moon visitor - me?
