Why the tree in the left fairway on 16? Is it as obtrusive as it looks in the photo?

I'm sure it is more obtrusive when fully leaved.  I hit it so hard it might be dead today.  ;)

There is plenty of room to stay away from it right, but that certainly changes your angle into the green.

Well I guess the proliferation of sand makes sense, but I can't get a handle on the placement of of comfortably half the sand.  Is this an attempt at so-called random bunkering?

 :o 8) ???

Interesting note to Shore Gate as David Dale visited Twisted Dune  right after we opened . He seemed singularly unimpressed . I got the impression he thought it very plain , without enough going on.  Of course when I  played Shore Gate, I thought there was way too much going on lol....I guess it was a wash.

Tom  Doak visited  TD and we walked the whole course together and he asked me  a lot of questions as to what I was  thinking with this or that. Still not sure exactly what he thought but he couldn't have been more polite and inquisitive.  Since then we've had some nice conversations and its nice to see a regular guy have real success in a tough business.

Is ShoreGate the "most difficult public course in South Jersey?

http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=golf-m/misc/course_reviews/shoregate.htm

I played it from the tips the first time I was out there several years back.  It's a very challenging golf course when you are hitting longer clubs into the greens because hitting the green does not guaruntee pars out there.

Why do we like this:

but not this:

In my opinion Fream deserves some props for taking risks, even if we can't agree on whether or not they paid off.

I agree with Archie.  The bunkers on the 4th at Hollywood are over done as well.

Bogey,

In general I agree but there are a couple of differences:

1. Hollywood has two holes that are "overbunkered", the 4th and the 12th:

As a result is fits imo at Hollywood. It is not a constant thing like at Shore Gate. The two holes end up being conversation pieces rather than a dominant theme.

2. Public course: This website has a unique bias against public golf courses. Taking risk at private golf is accepted, taking risk at public courses, not so accepted.

3. The Wardian Scale - If Matt says it is tooooooo hard, well there may be something there!

Bogey would love new-old-Hollywood (August 2019):

This is the first hole, but it shows the simplification that Team Doak brought to the project (excluding #17):

This is the 8th hole, now:
