I can see where Sean is coming from in regards to the trees, that is if I understand him correctly. Do you mean that trees pose as a distraction and take away from the holes on their own? When I'm looking at golf courses with trees I try and remove the trees while visualizing the hole I’m playing on its own. Strip the golf hole down to its bare essentials.
Having grown up in the PNW I have played my fair share of these courses and grown accustomed to playing them. I love nature and have a fascination with trees so I enjoy strolling around courses like Seattle, Shaughnessy, Royal Colwood and Capilano.
Wow, Bill...you just don't get the "uphill" from the picture in this thread. Phlattening Photography strikes again!
True this!
The shot into the 9th is really tough to stop as the green is shallow but wide. Players are already hitting a low lofted club into that green but the elevation makes it even harder to stop.
On Saturday I had the pleasure to experience Sagebrush so I took a look through Matt Bosla's thread full of photos the night before. Let me tell this 2nd shot into the 1st is massively up hill! I was expecting 30 feet max but it's close to double that, if not more!
They also make the holes seem tighter. Outside of the tee shot on 6, the approach into 7 and the tee shot on 10, the course is much forgiven off the tee and doesn't feel as tight as the photos make it seem. This is coming from someone who gets really uncomfortable on many of the tree lined course in BC.
It's amazing to actually play many of the courses I see posted here because photos never do justice the course topography.
