I have just recieved my copy of this book and have not read it thoroughly as yet.   On thumbing through I was struck by the quality of the photography and perhaps that the author was abit more strident in his views.  It is certainly a superb companion to his first effort and will provide a great referance point.

Just got mine as well, and yes, the photos are stunning. I played with Darius as Tom Doak's guest at Crystal Downs two years ago, just prior to the original release of Planet Golf.  Nice chap.  Similar views on gca to many here, but I thought he gave fair coverage to many diverse styles of architecture in the book and enjoyed both books.

Funny.  I happened to be shopping for a book as a thank you and came across the book at my local bookstore.  Bought a copy for myself and have really enjoyed many of the pics and reviews.  I was about to start a thread entitled "Poor Man's Confidential Guide"--Planet Golf.  I'm glad  I didn't and that I can add on to this thread.

I enjoy that the commentary is not just fluff; there is some mild criticism (nothing quite like the CG and some of its stinging humor) that is interesting enough to get me interested.  There is also a "Gazzetteer" section similar to the CG that is fun to look at as well.

Certainly worth the price $55? or so as the pics are fabulous and the commentary does have some bite and substance to it.

Planet Golf and Planet Golf USA are both great reads - maybe not as enjoyable as WAOG to read but the photos are wonderful.

If anyone is looking for an xmas pressie from the missus, this could be a good call.

Just wanted to give these 2 books a bump (Planet Golf and Planet Golf USA), as my wife just bought me both for my birthday.

Just fantastic.  The prior posts give a very good summary.

And my 2 1/2 year old loves looking at the pics while I read the reviews, so I have that going for me....

I've also got both volumes and are a wonderful addition to the golfers library. Listen to Darius Oliver- he know what he is talking about. Also, for those that are looking at coming out to Australia to play, Planet Golf offers a terrific insight as to which clubs are really worth visiting.

Two fantastic books that I highly recommend. It certainly does come across as a "Confidential Guide - Light" not because it features any less information, but because the author isn't quite as blunt as Doak is in his reviews.

I dont mind "bluntness" ?

They're both good picture books and give a decent insight to the courses contained therein.
