The municipal golfer that is a mid to high handicapper and wears stripes with plaids.

Nothing, and I should know; I resemble that remark.

As opposed to the member who wears stripes with plaids? Give me a break.

I will admit, I didn't know it was close to Philly until I lived there (in the late 90s). My boss was telling me about playing Pine Valley once; I was surprised, as I had always figured it was near NY. Other than a few pics in Golf Digest, I didn't know much more about it.

Of course, I didn't know much about New Jersey besides Springsteen and Newark Airport until then, either.

I was having a conversation with the a pro at Quaker yesterday about the renovation at Pinehurst #2, when a member jumped into the conversation and mixed up #2 with Pine Valley... I told him not to turn down a round at either!

Anthony,

Could you define, with specificity, the "average golfer" ?

Thanks

Anthony,

Could you define, with specificity, the "average golfer" ?

Thanks

I can tell you what they are not: someone who has been a member of east coast blue blood clubs their entire life and has NGLA, Garden City, Seminole, Pine Valley, Pine Tree, etc, etc, as part of their regular rotation.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

JC Jones,

That's nice, but that's not the question I asked Anthony.

I didn't ask him what the "average golfer" wasn't, I asked him to define, with specificity, what the "average golfer" was.

Your reference to my being a member of an east coast blue blood club for my entire life would be comical if it wasn't so absurd.
Perhaps you forgot how to spell my last name.

You're not as smart as you think you are. ;D

Pat Mucci,

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner
They'd be your partner, and...

You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you
You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you
Don't you? Don't You?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Probably confused with Pine Tree, Pine Hill, Pine Forest, Mid Pines, Pine Needles, somewhere between Pinehurst #2 and whispering Pines, and somewhere south of The Pines. Who was the architect behind Pine Valley?

Average US golfer knows tour stops, some rider cup stops, Major Rota. Where does PV fit in this?  How about, nowhere?

Methinks PV wants it that way.

The "average" golfer that I know has only played on a private club during monday outings. He has never asked who the architect was. He has never played a course that has the audacity to produce a logo belt. He is able to change his shoes in the parking lot without fear of breaking club rules. He would rather spend time with his wife than walk a course and have no place to store the cooler he filled with 12 beers at the corner. He has never paid for an official GHIN handicap, and has never played a course with a signature sandwich.  I would say that this average golfer has not put much thought at all into Pine Valley, but that does not mean he doesn't love golf, and it doesn't mean he is not a major revenue stream for the industry. It just means that members at Pine Valley should have no consideration for his opinion.

I once read the average golf handicap is between 15-20. Does this define the average golfer? If so I am sure ther are plenty of 15-20 handicaps that have access to PV that know plenty.

There is a picture of Pat Mucci on this site playing Mountain Ridge with pink shorts cut at an uncomfortable length above the knee.  He knows not of what an average golfer is and never will.

Not to mention, he posted on another thread that he's been playing Pine Valley for 47 years.  Either he is lying when he says he hasn't been a member of an east coast blue blood club his entire life or he is as old as shit.   ;D

JC,
Don't forget that Mr Mucci also called Tom Doak during a rain delay at NGLA.  Pretty average.

Pine Valley is a Christmas tree farm in Maryland. I purchased my tree there the last two years. By the way I also purchased a very retro pine valley winter hat there last year for $8.00
