Rory's backyard facility
« on: July 04, 2011, 04:45:51 PM »
Just found this on the BBC- Road Hole bunker with Portrush sand, greens that he sets up to the pace of his next tournament.  Pretty cool.

2011 highlights- Royal Aberdeen, Loch Lomond, Moray Old, NGLA (always a pleasure), Muirfield Village, Saucon Valley, watching the new holes coming along at The Renaissance Club.

Who wouldn't like practise when it is that much fun?
The trouble with modern equipment and distance—and I don't see anyone pointing this out—is that it robs from the player's experience. - Mickey Wright

There was an hour long documentary on McIlroy last night mainly following him post US Open win... There was a large section with him on his practice facility talking about the different grasses and how different sections are set up with each of the majors in mind... Looked a pretty nice facility but no word on who designed it for him... My money is on the Faldo crew... as a spin-off from his Lough Erne connection and some of the shaping looked similar...

John Clarkin's firm Turfgrass Consultancy did the work. See http://turfgrass.ie/blog/?p=305

Did he though?... Or did he project manage and provide agronomy services whilst subbing out the design?... .

After watching the video and being consumed lately with all things Rory I`m wondering when there has been a more likeable and unassuming champion in recent memory. I`m pretty sure Darren Clarke better bring a fan of cash over to Rory`s private sandbox and arrange for a lift home after Rory wins his auto too. ;D
