Anything worth seeing in the area?  I have time for maybe one round in late July.  Thanks.

Not much, but there are some interesting historical gems like Normandie Park (1903?). Try to play Forest Park (1913)--remodeled around 10 years ago. The antique Triple A (1903?) club was remodeled around 2 years ago. I like Gateway National across the river in Madison, IL and Annbriar--also across the river. Come to St. Louis, it holds the heat very well.

Give Glen Echo a call. They are private but would probably give you a shot if you explained your architectural prowlness. Seeing one of the last remaining works of the Foulis Brothers is important in understanding the evolution of penal golf. It is a relic much better than as profiled in the My Home Course section of this site.

Thanks, JK.  Tom, any archies of note in those courses?

Tony-
Normandie was designed by Robert Foulis. It has some really cool holes to my mind, but has had some conditioning issues over the years. I haven't played it this year, but if you can't grow grass in St. Louis this year...it should be in good shape.

Forest Park and Triple A were both originally Foulis, the remodels (really redesigns) by Hale Irwin, both located in Forest Park.

Gateway National- Keith Foster (bent fairways- an anomaly for publics in StL, most are zoysia)

Annbriar- Michael Hurdzan

John K is right, though. If you can swing it--play Glen Echo by the brothers Foulis. I've only played it once over thirty years ago, I still remember it.

FWIW- Normandie was designed by Jim Foulis, but built by Robert. The internets are a wonderful thing.

OK, since we are talking private, what about Bellerive?  St. Louis CC?  I think I can get on Bellerive, but not sure about St. Louis.

Tony-StL CC is the Xanadu of golf courses in St. Louis. I have yet to find that golden ticket. They have no website that I know of. What is the secret handshake required for guest admittance--I have know idea, but then I've only lived here for some 45 years. Good luck on that quest.
