Any thoughts on places to eat and drink for a foursome who likes beer and good food ?

It's too expensive, but I do love the Tap Room in the Pebble Beach clubhouse.  Yes, they have beer.

Hog's Breath or Mission Ranch are 2 classic places with bars and good food in Carmel.
It's all about the golf!

I second Mission Ranch.  Great restaurant, outstanding property, fun bar.

I don't know about Carmel, but I highly recommend Passion Fish in Pacific Grove for fine dining in a nice but not too stuffy environment - also wine is reasonably priced, as is the food. The Tap Room is quality - it's a great place to go for dinner - yes it's pricey but you have to go - really good buzz about the place -
I'll second the recommendation of Passion Fish, though it's not really a "beer and food" sort of place.
In July I will be riding two stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity, including Mont Ventoux for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Casanova.

Don't know about the beer but the food is out of this world.  Great building as well.

Roy's at Spanish Bay, view is second to none and food is outstanding. Bagpiper plays near sundown!
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

Definately Mission Ranch.  I've seen Clint hanging out there on a number of nights.  Be there when they send the dogs out to round up the sheep...  And come hungry for Prime Beef.

Sandy,

You're getting some good calls with: Passionfish(more unique, value wine-focused, superb, casual fine dining in Pacific Grove), Tap Room( not exceptional beer selection, perfect but pricey in the Lodge @Pebble Beach),Roy's ( progressive cuisine , but nothing distinctive on the beer front @Spanish Bay) Mission Ranch( great spot, beers are generally the normal offerings) and Cassanova(more a wine spot,high-end in Carmel)...it depends what your looking for atmosphere and price wise, though there are NO cheap outings in Carmel or the Peninsula proper in the upper tier locales.

There is a newer pub-grill in Carmel that I quite enjoy called Brophy's that has quality food and a nice mix of non-typical beer offerings along with the usual suspects. Forge in the Forest is another cool spot with an excellent beer selection and the food was solid the last I heard. Jack London's, a favorite haunt of locals and tour player/caddies during AT&T week is a good bar, but I can't vouch for the vittles.

My suggestions would be...

Passionfish dinner for a superb meal at a steal... price-wise. Their beer selection is fair, though the owners Ted and Cindy, could have the nice surprise or two in their offerings that should delight...they know their stuff.

Mission Ranch, especially if you get there in the early evening prior to sun-down, has the best setting, decent beer selection, good food and you might get to see Clint or chat up some fossils at the piano bar.

Brophy's for a lunch or happy hour is a good call. A nice post-meal walk on the beach(perhaps with a cigar) is right down the hill.

IM me if you need more info, I lived and caddied out there for 11+ years and became a bit of a foodie thanks to my time there!

Cheers,

Did the name of the thread fool you or have you found a way to sort threads by OT/Non OT? ;)

Forge in the Forest in Carmel has solid pub grub

Sapporo Japanese Steakhouse right on the wharf in Monterey has good stuff. I think I got some chef's choice sushi and shrimp tempura, my friend got something with chicken, and we both got the jalapeno appetizers. It was all pretty dank.

I just find it a little more honest, less self-important, and less offensive if a blatently off-topic thread is prefaced by OT.  A thread title can easily be changed by the person who starts it.  It also makes it a little more apparent (for example to the moderators and founder of the board who ask that most of the discussion here be golf course architecture related) when you take a glance at the first page to see how many threads are off-topic (fortunately, not too many right now).

By the way, does anyone here have a motorcycle?  And I've got some good gardening tips that I'd like to share.

Hey guys thanks so much for all your help. Have not been to Carmel since the 92 Open but have the great chance to play CPC in October. Again thanks for all your suggestions.

Paul & Sandy,

In Carmel, that breakfast spot would be Katie's...great French toast and good omelettes, with a Dungeness Crab offering the headliner. Doubt your look'n for beers that early!

In Pacific Grove, it's Toasties, right next to the Post Office...superb breakfast spot, great home fries, nice staff.
First Watch is also good in PG, but a notch down compared to Toasties.

At the Lodge, the eatery right over the putting green next to the pro shop has good breakfast and a seafood omlette that is the bomb...and your wallet will feel it got hit by one when you're done! ;D

Cheers,

I think he may be thinking of the Tuck Box. If so, it's very good.

Little Napoli is pretty good for Italian.

If you're up fpr driving, Nepenthe in Big Sur is great. The best view for a resturant I've seen.

Echo Passionfish. The food is great and the wine list is simply the best and most reasonably priced collection of small-production California wine in the country. Expect to pay half of what you would normally pay for wine.
