The BIG chimbley so familiar to all who have enjoyed the Links at Leven and Lundin no longer casts it's long shadow...

Marty,

We are currently in the midst of debate in Dublin whether the two recently decommissioned big chimneys that stand guard over Dublin Port (and are so much a part of the landscape and will be familiar to those who play Royal Dublin and Portmarnock) will suffer the same fate.... I hope not.... Their demise would act as a suitable analogy for our crumbling economy and we could perhaps do without that...

It's astonishing for how long the chimney remained in one piece as it fell.

8) most chimneys like that have steel liners (9 mm at bottom) and pretty thick walls at bottom (~1000 mm) both which taper off with height.. and don't forget their bracing/supports up the stack,... so they're pretty stout until their base is blown out!
