Completely OT- Why Golf is Great
« on: June 16, 2011, 09:33:35 PM »
I couldn't resist posting this completely off architecture thread (and it should disappear with little response) but I was thinking about what golf means to me.....

Tomorrow I'm playing Palmetto Golf Club with our pro and six other Camden Country Club members.  All are pretty good players and fully appreciate the history and architectural merit of Palmetto; we'll have a great little competition and a wonderful day, followed by a few adult beverages on the porch of the Stanford White clubhouse at Palmetto.

In the evening, I'll be going to Santee, South Carolina for a "golf weekend" with friends, where we will play two courses with no architectural merit whatsoever but where we will drink a great deal of gin and beer, chase whatever skirts might be available,  eat good steaks, watch college world series baseball and US Open Golf, and generally have a good time.

Only golf makes such weekends possible.  What a great sport.

Chasing skirts, and golf, should reveal the humility found deep within us all.
