Please vote for your favorite. You have till EOD Sunday. Anyone can vote, not just people who have played the holes. What I do ask of people who have played either of the holes is to advocate strongly (or speak against it) why you believe this hole deserves some love.

Happy voting!

TEPaul Division #1
North Berwick #15, 190 yards

From Ran - The much copied 190 yard Redan par three. The term Redan is borrowed from the military and means ‘guarding parapet.’ The key is for the tee ball to clear the parapet and yet still stop quickly on the green. Subsequent versions have been better done as a mound some forty yards short of the green obscures part of this hole.

TEPaul Division, #9 Seed, Kingsley, Hole #16, 225 yards

From Tim Bert: From the tips, a low runner well right of the target works rather well.  Mike teed his ball up on this hole and hit his shot well right of the green.  It was far enough right that I recall thinking he must have really pushed it out there to the right.  He seemed pleased enough with himself despite what appeared to be a lackluster effort.  Well, we all learned the lesson of "architect knows best" as we watched his ball land well right, bounce and roll to the left, disappear from view behind a small mound, reappear on the green, and trickle left until it settled rather nicely on the green not too far from the pin.

Errm...for want of a phrase, that's pure b+++++++!   The blindness creates total uncertainty as to where to land the ball.  I played it 3x in May all with a STRONG following wind, necessitating landing the ball well short of the green.  Used a different club each time, the longest finished on the green, possibly because it slammed into the rise in front of the green. The other two ran through.

From all the pictures I've seen on this site there's only one Redan.  The rest are imitators who can't match the pure swagger of the original.

See you in Sept. Ran. ;D

Can someone post a good shot of NB from the tee? I still have a hard time finding the kick plate on that hole...withholding vote until I see a better pic of the NB version.

I vote North Berwick, which I have played several times. I like the NB hole because even if you miss off the back, you have a chip that can salvage a par, as long as you did not miss way too far back. That makes it more than a do or die hole.

Man, that original NB bunker was nasty--a real Redan, if you know your old war photos like I do.

This is the view from the tee if I read the description right.  Its a blind shot with only the two bunkers in view!

My vote goes to NB as well.  While Kingsley is a very aesthetic looking hole, doesn't remind one much of the original.

I haven't seen the Kingsley version but I agree with Tony the blindness of the NB version only adds to the challenge of the hole.

How can it be anything but North Berwick?

The NB hole isn't entirely blind. In the pic above that Kalen reposted you can see both the flag and the LHS greenside bunker from the tee - gives a fair idea of where to hit it.

I vote NB.

Spangles

Ran has been MacDed.  That man could spew forth BS as much as anyone.  No brainer as its nearly impossible to beat the original in this sort od deal - North Berwick.
