Flat drainage pipe - Pro's and Con's

I'm interested to hear some views on the use of flat drainage pipe in greens.  I understand the advtanages from an installation point of view (e.g. limited to no trenching) but can't quite see how it is as effective at draining a profile as trenching round pipe.

I believe the USGA have extended their greens construction method to include this style of pipe but am curious to hear from others experiences - more around its effectiveness than anything to do with installation.

We have been using flat drains in greens and tees for a little while now and find they work well. Much easier and quicker to install with a lot less mess.

Mike,

We used them at Firekeeper for the convenience and find they work well enough to consider them again. No complaints of fouled drainage so far.  Please recall that for the most part, those 4" round pipes only flow on the bottom anyway, never building up enough head to flow full in most cases.
