I will be there for three weeks in August and need to fill my golf fix.  Any suggestions besides the Sagamore course......

Lots of good choices in the surrounding area besides the Sagamore but that is certainly worth playing.  Not sure your golf budget, how far you are willing to travel or if you a member of a private club where your Pro can make a call or two

Top choice as far as I am concerned is Glens Falls Country Club.  It's private so you need to get access. Very close to Lake George.

Next on the list is a semi private Hiland Park also very close to Lake George.  A reciprocal club to mine.

A little farther down the road is Saratoga National.  A bit pricey in the summer as it's track season, another thing you should do for a day http://www.nyra.com/index_saratoga.html

Also in Saratoga is The Saratoga Spa course in the state park.  Nice layout http://www.saratogaspagolf.com/

A road trip of 2 hours gets you to the much talked about on GCA Leatherstocking golf course in Cooperstown, also home of the baseball hall of fame. http://www.otesaga.com/LGC/

There are also plenty of others in the greater area I can suggest depending on your criteria.  If I am available I would be happy to host at my club in the Albany area (approx. 1 hour) and can typically get access at most of the clubs in the Albany area if there is something that looks interesting to you.

Charlie,

Another fun course is Thendara, which is about an hour and a half drive along Route 28 in the Adirondacks.  Thendara has 9 holes designed by Donald Ross, which include some of the wildest greens I've ever seen from him.  The back nine is not as good, but it winds through the Adirondack wilderness and features cool land and some strong holes.  In September, it was $23 for 18 holes, and the course is one of my favorites in Upstate New York.  Oh, and I made a two hour drive from Colgate to see it, so it is well worth the trip.

If you want to travel a bit through the Adirondacks, the Saranac Inn course is nice a a couple of the Lake Placid courses are decent.  I like Whiteface Mountain Club personally.  All but Saranac are weaker than what I already listed closer.  Although Whuiteface may have seen some cash put into it since the last time I was there.  Fun mountain golf.

Lake Placid is about a hour and a 1/2 further North
