Sean - Butch Baird is a friend of mine and we got talking about old times and what Frank Stranahan did. He has never been honoured, we agreed he did a lot for the game so over a few beers I promised to name a course after him. Frank Stranahan was an amateur for the most part and came runner up twice in our Open 1947 and 1953, he also came second in the Masters in 47 and won our Amateur in 1948 and 1950, he was runner up too and in a US Amateur. Frank came over from 1947 through to about 1958 and played in our championship usually just one of a couple of Americans. No doubt that Frank helped our championship.

Frank is living in West Palm Beach, Florida and still hits some balls on the range, he is 89 in a couple months, his son Lance says he can still hit it pretty good.

Cheers  Brian.

Sean,

Unfortunately no chance of me making it down although I dearly wish I could. I'd be very interested to see more of the course if you are doing one of your famous photo tours.

Thanks Kalen (& Adrian)

This hole looked "odd" for me ? I presume that's the line of play with the tree in front ?

Kevin, it's been removed now, I was 50-50 if to keep it or not, it was a hawthorn so would have remained small but it did detract a bit from certain tee & pin positions. The whole course is very much work in progress and we are adding bits daily.

Thanks Adrian - good luck with it. I look forward to coming out to England again in the next few years and see how it progresses.

Sean,

I might come up to play and guide you around the course will let you know closer to the 10th. I saw how this course was built and have played it with Adrian. It would be great to play it now as it is one year more mature!

Cheers

No worries SWAG, its just a game.  The numbers aren't really an issue as we are just out to kick the ball around.

The last two spots are filled.  If anybody else wants to come along we will have to consult the tee sheet and see what gives.

Sean,

I'm going to have to bow out, I'm afraid.

After 36 holes at Cavendish yesterday my left foot has swollen up to the point that I can't get a shoe on, so golf anywhere is going to be off the agenda for a couple of weeks. :'(

Hope it gives someone else a chance of a game.

Duncan
