Peter Finch column in GD ...
« on: May 08, 2011, 11:13:59 AM »
I would urge people to read Peter Finch's column in the current issue of GD. Speaks to those courses that provide the winning combination of top flight design without the accompanying fees to go with it.

GD should rate the best public courses with that in mind since only the smallest of percentages cann tee it up on a somewhat frequent basis for places like PB, WS, #2 and all others of this ilk.

The service to the bulk of those who play would be a real plus.

Is this the article? http://www.golfdigest.com/magazine/2011-03/peter-finch-finance

If so, I agree with the idea of increasing tee time intervals to speed up play. 7 or 8 minute intervals are a major reason for 5 hour+ weekend rounds on public courses. 10 minute intervals, strictly enforced at the first tee, plus effective rangering, can result in 4 hour rounds.

Steve:

No, the column is in the GD issue w Matt K on the cover.

Really itemizes what serious golfers want and how the frills simply drive up the costs and are frankly so utterly non-golf oriented.

Steve:

I'm glad that someone at GD finally understands that most players want a well done course but not at inane prices that are beyond their pocket books. Peter's column addresses that quite well. Hats off to Eddie Peck of Black Mesa who is quoted in the article and the key elements he articulates -- all other courses should be thinking in the same terms.
