Abbottabad Golf Club
« on: May 02, 2011, 12:03:36 AM »
Anyone played it?  I went to google earth to see were Osama was killed and and there's a golf course there.

Is it in the Confidential Guide?

He was allegedly in a mansion.  Maybe he was in a gated community with a golf-front home.

So much for the notion he'd be found in a bunker.

I sent them a proposal to do some work, but they said they needed to replace some recently lost members.

I did the same thing and was going to do an Aerial of the Day, but you beat me to it.

Piffer Golf Club, reportedly maintained by Pakistan's military.   Features on the course suggest it might be from a time gone by, perhaps a legacy of British colonial past.

Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

All GCA.com comments in good fun according to our forum subject matter.  But in reality, great cause for concern over the implications of this entire 'hiding in plain sight' overtly obvious factor of harboring this international mass murderer criminal under the noses of the Paki military/intelligence apparatus.

After the endzone dances and revelry over the mission that our incredibly great Navy Seals and CIA ops people pulled off, the reality of what is next needs some very serious attention.  Kudos to our administration for doing this right with great patience and careful planning, not apparently loosing any personnel, and whatever background intelligence skulduggery had to occur to bring this mission to a successful result.  Clearly, this was no debacle in the dessert like the Iran hostage rescue, or some other operations that were pushed for suspected political opportunism.  I'm sure we may never know what all went into the whole thing, nor what is being done now.  But, I'm going to sleep a bit better knowing that there is competence in our leadership.

I found a reference to golf in Abbottabad in a book published in 1895.

Here is a photo which purports to be of part of the golf course there.

Trump is going to buy it and Trump-o-vate it to hold the Abbottabad Open in 2012.  It is a sure bet for top 10 Islamic CCFAD.

It's tough to find pics of this course, they must have a strict anti-camera policy!

Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

This is one club where holding up the group behind with slow play is really not a good idea.  When they have an 18 hole shootout tournament it's best to drop one of your wedges in favor of an AK-47!  ;D

I can see that. There looks to be a number of the artificial late 19th century features, that were more typical of the US, remaining in that aerial.
I wonder who the architect was?
