When an architect passes away, is it proper to list him as "NLE?"   That'd be great on a tombstone.

David,

Works for me.

There are a few web sites out there for those interested in funny tombstones that leave them laughing.  Among the best - "I told you I was sick."  I wonder if that one was from a long ago participant on the Merion threads?

I am not sure I understand the purpose of this thread.  I appreciate when designers participate just as I do when shapers, owners, developers, etc. participate, but I don't understand the point of such lists.  I assure you they all know who they are, and some of them may not want to bring attention to themselves in the form of a list.  If they do, then they can put it in their signature or otherwise bring it up when they post.    Plus, there is a big difference between those who actually participate and those who just show up here to shill for their latest project then disappear.  And some on the list who used to participate haven't posted in years!

But perhaps I don't understand?   What is the point of this list, if any?

David...your focus is so narrow it must be thrilling to be in command of all you see!  :)

This is a harmless thread...I quess some people get a simple pleasure from viewing or being on lists...it's not OT...and maybe that's its point.

Paul
I don't think you look better when you put someone down.
I'd like to know what the point of the list is as well.
To say some of those on the list are members/posters/contributors is silly.

Maybe if there was the Mike Young internet architect list...

I'd also have listed them in post # order - not alphabetical - this way you could have been near the top  :)

cheers

Mike

I was excited to be in the Top Ten Alphabetical (10th if no one bumps me). You're right, I probably could rise a few if it was Top Ten Posts, but I'm content to just stay where I am.....although I used to be #1 in Top Ten Random!

I've made about a Grand (£sterling) from golf course architecture and been stiffed about £500. Does that entitle me to be added to 'The List'???

The only fault I see with this list is those reading may be thinking this is a blokes profession  - so I shall add my name to balance things out  : )

I check in regularly, contributing on occasion.

Well thats 60 so far.

Only 4 more to go and Scott can start the knockout tourney.

For those questioning the point of the list, perhaps non architect posters would like to see who the contributing golf architects are on a golf architecture forum?

It's pretty much a no brainer for people without agendas.

Very funny....

but To receive the 16th seed and be knocked out by 73 points by Jeff Brauer may permanently crush any remaining self confidence I once had. ;D

RT was Russell Talley (SP)  a Sooner expat working for Hawtree UK.  I’ve seen a few posts under that signature recently.

A full time Swiss resident on the site is John Chilver Stainer

Philip Spogard has now set up his own practice in, I believe, Denmark.

Didn’t we have Donald Steel for about 24 hrs?

Also didn't Geoff Shackleford post at one time?

Let the matchplay begin!
Let's make GCA grate again!

Hi Everyone,

I'm really sorry if this thread has upset anyone. It didn't even enter my mind that anyone would take offence. This is a site to write about golf course design, and I was interested to know who we had, and how many GCA's we had. (NB- It looks like there is about 60 GCA's on the site out of about 1200 registered users, which makes it about 5%.)

The extent of the geographic spread interests me, and I am impressed by the vast experience that some of the Architects with us have too. And it's nice to see we have some young guys learning their trade under the wings of others. These guys are the future of the industry, and some historian may at some time in the future trawl through these threads and find out the how this young man evolved into the next great architect, his thoughts on design, and where he worked.

All the information on this thread was in the public forum, and I hope we can just enjoy the simple list for what it is.

regards,

Scott

Bogey,

When I was in 7th grade, I was building clay models of golf holes.

And, mowing Dad's lawn with square tees, doglegs and greens, at least until he started yelling.
