Joe,

It's interesting that by 1917 Ross is credited with over 200 courses in this article.

What's also interesting is Ross's penal philosophy on par 5's.

He's committed to penalizing a wayward drive or second shot to the degree that reaching the green in regulation is unattainable.

I wonder when and why he abandoned that philosophy as time went by.

And wouldn't you like to have Rice's written notes of the interview?   I'm just guessing only a small slice of what Ross said went into this short article.
