Just step up and hit it!!
« on: April 04, 2011, 09:59:45 PM »
I have seen brevity in the golf swing process and what it can do!!

I brought my lovely golden retriever out to the golf course this Sunday afternoon and found that she needs training as a golf companion. I will confess that GCA inspired me to introduce the dog to my NJ club as we have recently threaded about Swinley Forest and St. Georges Hill and how prevalent the canine population is there. I will need to drill into my dog a better sense of  "stay" while I am am addressing and hitting the ball! What was very interesting in the process was that I was forced to make a number of "rushed" shots as she (golden retriever) would not leave me alone in the midst of it all.

Quickly, I would just step up and hit the ball. Holy crap!, I hit some of the most magnificent shots I have seen in years. No practice swings at all,  just set up and go. Beautiful draws right in to the pin.

Lesson...

We belabor way too much in our minds with practice swings and routine. Just step up and strike the ball and you will marvel at the results!

Nice one! A few years ago, I played 54 holes in one day (3 different courses) and as a group we decided no practice swings the entire day. Played great golf and certainly helped maintain some stamina.

All the time you saved by not thinking pre shot should have been spent raking the traps your dog disrupted.  I doubt that you took the trouble considering it was Sunday afternoon and you figured the boys could handle it on Monday.

Ah Mr Sunshine strikes again!

Well Malcolm just know that I, unlike Mr Kavanaugh, have no doubt whatsoever that you raked every trap that you or your dog visited! (Since I, also unlike Mr Kavanaugh, believe (although perhaps I'm a rube for believing so) that golf helps us find our better selves).

and a vote for golf-as-it-ought-to-be...

Well, of course you're right about that.  It's just that I 'gotta believe' that in the present instance, with present company the trend was bucked...

I don't know.  But I've heard it the same number of times as I've said "rake the damn bunker, lazy."

I say stop raking bunkers entirely, unless rain and wind require some basic maintenance. It's a hazard. Play it out of footprints.

I wish I could walk my feline and give commands that would be honored.  I'd walk the course and she could chase birds and whatnot.  Oh, well.  When dogs are on courses are the owners obliged to leash their dogs (I saw the sign in the above photo) or can the dogs romp about and generally have a good time, seeing as the don't pick up balls or disturb others?

Free Minds and Dog Lovers have it – being self-sustained is so relaxing and enjoyable, so why would anyone want to be a slave to a cart or distance aids. Now if that was a Tart, there may be something in that but it’s a p#ss*ng cart.

So please just step up and it. You know its bloody good for you.

I've never heard it in 50 years of playing golf. You play with slobs.

Objection, your honor. The prosecutor, Mr. Kavanaugh, is assuming -- yet again -- facts not in evidence.

Many times people apologize to me for talking during my swing. There seems to be an acceptable few seconds between one person's shot and the next that all golfers assume. I usually have hit before that time is up.

Malcolm-You might be tempted to call out JaKa as a killjoy after reading his post but that would only encourage additional provocative posting on his part. If you think that he isn`t a killjoy then you may want to go to the Ishakawa Charity thread where you may be even further perplexed by his musings.

I have a natural right to dislike dogs on golf courses.  The OP says his dog was out of control.  He says it was Sunday afternoon.  I am not being a troll going to the natural extension that the dog was off playing in bunkers during play.

What's with the picture above that says dogs must be on leads.  God forbid.

Mike,
This happens to me all the time, I've also been known to talk through my own swing so as not to interrupt the flow of a story.

P.S. I like dogs, would love to be able to take my 2 mutts for a wander on the course

JaKa-The point of the original post was to celebrate fast play and anyone reading Malcolm`s post would understand that. No one is arguing your inalienable right not to like anything. Why turn everything into a pile of shit? :o ::)

John

I am surprised with you, although I know I should not be. However I still am because you have forgotten the bullshit that comes from some on this site which will, I suspect far exceed the volume generated by the rabbits and dogs together.  Add to that fact that the bullshit is often served very hot, but alas toneless apparently.

Oh well each man has to stand up or in your case sit down for his beliefs. Do you carry around your own sponge or do you use the communal one  ??? ;)

Do have a nice day
