We have witnessed the second coming of Jordan Wall...

Thanks for the negative comment buddy. Guess I don't like you after all, and take back every nice thing I said about you yesterday. I have ever right to my opinion. And if you dont like em, don't read em, and dont come play my courses that you dislike so much.

geeeeeeeeez what i ever do to you

There we go then. You like yale, I like Taconic

Taconic is the best college course in the country. I have every right to say that - that is what is true to me. Not Tim Martin's opinion on which is better which is only true to you

Travis-I have no problem with you liking Taconic but if I recall as of last December you had not yet seen Yale. How do you make the comparison?

Never been, so how can I like Yale more than Taconic?

not everyone puts yale as their number 1

When you see Yale and can make an informed argument I am willing to listen.

What if I still like Taconic better?

Isn't that a personal choice i am entitled too??

Not saying that I am expecting this. I am just saying, you gotta respect my opinion, and if i play both coureses, and we dont like the same one as the best, who says im right and who says your right?

I did not view the Jordan Wall comment as an insult. Jordan is a good kid, high energy and you seem the same way. The only thing I would say to you is to keep an open mind about some of those courses you have not played.

Thank you Jim.

My only problem is, how can I hold a courses, in high regard, if I have never been to play it?

Even say what you want about any of the best courses in the world that I have never been to, and maybe seen a few pictures. How can I really categorize them amongst other coureses that I HAVE played?

Brad,

I forgot to mention. Cy Kilgore is my number one man though! Love that guy, he is a great ball of energy. Is Tedesco in the met league still ? I stay away from those things, so I am out of the loop with who is playing.

The quote I never commented  bback to you on meant, that grass and turf and soil feels a lot different, when it has naturally been setting, and moving for 75+ years, then when grass is recently laid, or grown. I think you can kinda understand what I am saying. Think Turner Hill v. Essex/salem/myopia. The ground and soil is a lot different at turner, then at the other three. Think, whispy broken, sandy divots at turner. nice chunks of grass dirt and maybe a worm at the others

Travis,
You obviously are allowed to write whatever you want, but if you want others to respect your opinions and care what you have to say, then comments like this don't help. Bashing courses that you clearly aren't even familiar with is a quick way to get written off.

Your honesty and passion for the topic are commendable, however. Hopefully the first comment comes across more as a friendly suggestion than anything else.

Yeah Cy is a great guy most definately...amazing what he has done in his amateur career while being a shorter hitter.  He has to have one of the better short games I have ever seen.  Just saw him up at Tedesco this past saturday.  The Met League is still going strong....it is currently Tedeco, BB, Charles River, Woodland, Weston, Pine Brook, Oakley, Winchester, Salem, and Wellesley.  We used to have TCC but they were replaced by Wellesley a few years ago as TCC's team wasn't that competetive.  I actually played Mike Sexton in a match last year...he's a bit of an odd cat, but an ok guy.  I remember the day he shot the 67 at Williams...holed out two fairway shots during his round I believe.

I didn't know Coach V. too well personally, and he had a brief run-in with one of our players one year during a tourney round that was very comical after hearing the story...something about trying to kick our guy's girlfriend off the course at Midd while she was following him around...classic.  Those Pinehurst trips were great...we did get to play ONSt. a couple times...pretty solid track.

I'm all for you defending your opinion, and these guys are just giving you crap...but you aren't going to get very far with grand statements having not seen some of the others in the discussion.  I've failed at this a few times personally.  It's like being a vegetarian your entire life, eating a steak one day and saying "this is the greatest steak in the world, and how dare anyone else tell me different."  While factually true for you personally at that moment in time, it's a pretty odd statement.

On another note....$15 from Coach Pohle?  Nice!!  A couple teammates and I have always threatened to go back there and play, and imagined that he'd remember us and hook us up ($140 or whatever is insane for W. MA!), but we have never tried it out.
So I jump ship in Hong Kong....

Bit of a lurker, but like the Mass. golf talk. Have any of you Mass guys played Wyantenuck? Was my home course growing up. It is hosting the Mass Am this year and am wondering of those that have played it what you think the response will be following the the tournament. I think those who haven't played it before will really enjoy it, but think they will need to have the rough pretty shaggy to offset short length and openess of the course.

Brad- Although Taconic is in the middle of nowhere and I would certainly prefer a hookup I didn`t feel cheated at $145. If you think about some of the other courses where the rate starts in the two and three hundred dollar range I think they have it about right. They only put aside a certain number of times so it is not truly public and the rate keeps the tee sheet manageable.

Brad makes a great point in regard to Old Mac. I played it in the summer and loved it. A few friends played it over the winter and thought it was the 4th best course there. In the summer wind, #4 was a driver 8 iron. I understand in the winter it was driver, 3 wood, 8 iron. Seeing that a course will play THAT differently in different seasons makes it hard to see that Old Mac is the #3 course in America.

Why? Are you saying that a hole should play the same all the time, #17 and #18 at old mac is similar in that regard as well....

Thanks
It's all about the golf!

I am not saying they should play the same all the time. In the summer wind, #4 is a reasonable par 4, in the winter wind, it sounds like a tough par 5. I have only played it in the summer, but I can see someone playing it in the winter and not liking the fact that they could not reach a par 4 in regulation as a decent player. I need to see it in the winter to understand why someone would feel that way though. Wind is part of the game and makes courses play differently which is a good thing. With all of this said, Old Mac was my favorite of the 4 with Pac Dunes right behind it.

For me, #4 and #6 at Old Mac would play better with a summer wind. #4 was essentially a par five and played ok as such, but I would guess it would be more interesting as a hole reachable in two shots. I'm pretty long and there was no consideration for getting home in two--I had 100 yards to go after a low mediocre drive and a good hybrid. I might have gotten another 50 yards out of two perfect shots.

#6 I think would play better into the wind (for me) because I hit a high flared drive to the right and still hit hybrid pin high just right of the green and made an easy par. The hell bunker was a pretty distraction. For a couple others in our group it was still right in the way on their second shots though, so that's more a description of how it fit my game than the quality of the hole itself.

The elasticity of the course is important given the changing conditions.

Whoa, never thought id be doing this via phone ! Never played but hear awesome awesome things.a friend from college was from great barrington, and I always enjoyed drivingthrough town on the pike - I could only imagine the good parts !! I think response will be great and that everyhone will love the course. I am in favor of having the course playable, where we can see some exciting match play golf. I still have a sour taste from 05, when everyone complained that worcester was playing too difficult, rough too thick and long, greens too firm and fast. I really like the choice of wyantenuck for this year !
