I think it changes things a lot.
Unless you own a share are you really a "member"?
You might have some privileges, but a for profit private enterprise is something totally different then a club owned by it's members.
Its like saying your a member of a semi-private golf course. You may prepay for green fees or pay a fee to gain access to select tee times, but your not a member in the true sense of the word, at least to me.
If I work for an owner it's my job to serve him, if I work for a membership it's my job to serve the members. Those two jobs can be very different.
