I think it changes things a lot.
Unless you own a share are you really a "member"?
You might have some privileges, but a for profit private enterprise is something totally different then a club owned by it's members.
Its like saying your a member of a semi-private golf course. You may prepay for green fees or pay a fee to gain access to select tee times, but your not a member in the true sense of the word, at least to me.
If I work for an owner it's my job to serve him, if I work for a membership it's my job to serve the members. Those two jobs can be very different.

Rick,

Are you a member at this club you "visit"?  I can't tell.
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.

Yes league is a poor name for it.  This is an organized mens group that is basically a member-guest challenge every weekend from Memorial day to Labor day.  pretty crappy.  Lots of members have written letters suggesting that it move to an 11:00 or 12:00 start time which would make life a  lot better for the other members.  We will see if this is changed this season.  A local member owned club here in S. Jersey does exactly what you said Roger.....they allow only immediate family as guests before 11:00.  It works out great for them.  Then they have some other guests arrive for afternoon rounds and some of those are organized (small) events.  It better spaces out the players and doesnt tick off the membership.

Roger: Very well illustrated and written.  Most members don't understand the complexity of managing individual expectations of 200-300 families.

The last 5 years have been a tough time to be working in the golf business.

One of the disadvantages of belonging to a corporate owned private club is not having a benevolent owner. There are some such clubs that have owners that seek input from members and limit the number of outings, etc. My former club was one of them. I think it's more of a function of how much  upfront money(membership deposit) the owners require. More money= more considerate owner;less money=more problems.
