Jim:

I'd like to see RC start higher -- the layout is so solid -- although I see the closing hole as being rather anti-climatic -- just my personal view.

Be a helluva dogfight between the likes of a Ballyneal and Rock Creek though !

RCCC should be top 5, but I am afraid Matt is going to be right again and it will fall around 40.

Jim, could you tell us your top 10 modern?

My top 10 modern is as follows:

1. Rock Creek
2. Sand Hills
3. Old Macdonald
4. Pacific Dunes
5. Victoria National
6. Ballyneal
7. Sebonack
8. Friars Head
9. The Alotian
10. Pete Dye GC

I am sorry if people think I have an overload of Tom Doak courses at the top, but I think this is a pretty solid list. And if you don't like it, then tell Tom to start designing some dogs.

Wow Jim - strong list.  Alotian??

I believe (I have no inside info) that RCCC will debut in the top 10-15 when Brad puts the list out next week.  Courses I think will move down the top 15 list to make room for RCCC are Bandon and Old Sandwich.

What's amazing is how the mountain time zone has now climbed since the time CG was first published.

Can thank Doak for that -- ditto to the others who have helped out too -- although in a lesser way but still
in providing a wide range of superior golf course designs.

And I feel like Machiavelli, who gave himself the right to tell a Prince how to live because, though he himself had never been to the mountaintop, his lowly position in the valley far below actually gave him a better/truer view of the mountain's height and grandeur.

Which is to say, I've been no place, but I've been betting since day one that -- within the lifespan of gca.com  -- Ballyneal would steadily climb to the top of this rating list; and that, within our lifetimes, it would eventually take over the No. 1 spot on all the rankings.

It's good to be loved, it's better to be feared....but it is best of all to be stunningly natural, especially in big-sky country.

This year on the Golfweek.com Web site we'll also showcase "the next 100" Classic and Modern courses, in order, Nos. 101-200, so you'll see whose next, who didn't make it, and who might.

I just meant that she was as attractive and sexy 10 minutes before she starred in the Postman Always Rings Twice as she was 10 minutes after.

The first 15 seconds of this clip is what made Lana Turner a star.  It is the scene of her walking down the street in her first picture, "They Won't Forget."  It caused quite a sensation at the time, which was the height of the Motion Picture Production Code.

Personally,  I would like to see Hidden Creek move up from 71 into a top 30 position.  It is a much better course than World Woods and HarborTown.  Number 71 is too low a spot for such a fun, heathland design.  World Woods is ok but the condition there was pretty rough whenever I played there.

When are the rankings supposed to come out? This week?

The "next 100" will be very interesting.

Agree that it is unlikely that they will combine lists. If anything, we will have a few more categories soon, like post modern and ancient.

Thus, we could have 1500-1900 (ancient)
1900-1950 (classic)
1951-2000 (modern)
2001 plus (post modern)

Frankly, Jeff not a a bad idea.

Let's start our own magazine and kick these lists off.  But here is the deal, we actually have to play all the courses before we can rate them.  You take classic and modern and I'll take post modern and ancient.

We need to have all these courses played by this time next year, then we will launch the mag.  Ready, set, go!!

The only flaw in my plan is that we might not have 100 list worthy courses post 2010.....I also suspect that post modern would begin the day Sand Hills opened.

Jeff...I think you are correct on the post modern time frame.  And isn't that cool as hell, that is to be the course that rang in a new era?  Neat!

Big move up by Friars.  Bandon, WS and Bally drop a little with addition of Old Mac.  Rock Creek at 15 is a strong debut.

That many people made it out to Rock Creek?  Interesting.

Most importantly, where is Kingsley?
I get it, you are mad at the world because you are an adult caddie and few people take you seriously.

Excellent spellers usually lack any vision or common sense.

I know plenty of courses that are in the red, and they are killing it.
