Guys, I'm way better for next weekend on Sunday rather than Saturday.   Can we set this for Sunday and I'll take care of getting a couple of tee times just past noon for the twilight rate?

Right now I see the following as strong maybes:

Kyle
Jason
Kris

Joe,

Saturday is preferable for me, but I can make it work for Sunday as well.

I may be able to do Saturday.
Sunday is out due to daughter's Build-A-Bear birthday party. Fun stuff!

Either way, looks like warmer temps are coming and looking forward to more of these semi-impromptu get togethers.

Sunday would be a better fit for me, but I'll roll with the program vote!

I am interested, for those that would have me.  Seaview would be a treat, I live 15 minutes away.

I could do this too!

I just checked the Accuweather extended forecast.

Monday in the low 50's, Tue-Weds high to mid 40's, thurs mid 50's

Fri, Feb 18th     High 56 degrees/ couple of showers possible
Sat, Feb 19th    High 53 degrees/ clouds and sun
Sun Feb 20th    High 58 degrees/ episodes of sunshine

Seaview Pines is originally a William Flynn and I believe is the better of the two courses at Seaview I have not played twisted Dune but hear it is fun.

I propose teams are chosen like at the recent NHL All-Star game!  This will happen at the first tee of the Bay course.  I will captain Team Wilson.  John will captain Team Ross.  Bring your (GC)A game.  ;)

Joe

(Malcolm, perhaps another day a game on the Pines will happen; I'm a way bigger fan of the Bay course).

Also, we've nailed down next Sunday as the date for the round at Seaview.  Apologies to the folks who can't make it that day, but I'm guessing there will be a couple more such gathering in the following weeks--I know I'm game.

I'll contact Seaview tomorrow, set up some times with a twilight rate, and get back to everyone on times and rates (which should be under $40 no matter what).  In the meantime, confirm with Joe or I if u want to play.

Hope to see as many of you there as possible: February golf in the Northeast is always a treat!

I just booked times for Sunday, February 20 at Seaview's Bay Course.

We have four tee times starting at 12 PM: 12:00, 12:10, 12:20, and 12:30.

The rate is $39 for 18 holes, which is the weekend twilight rate.

If you are playing, please let Joe or I know definitively over the next few days.  Right now, we have 16 slots.  However, if there appears to be higher demand than that, I will add more times accordingly.

I hope to see you all there for some good competition on a classic layout!

Malcolm,

The Pines Course is closed, so the Bay Course was the only option.  However, Pines looks very cool, and I would want to see it at a future date.  The more I read, hear, and see, the more I am blown away by the volume of quality classic courses in Jersey.

John,

Well done. I'm in all day. If that weather holds, a CGA battle royale should ensue, with the usual post round merriment of course!

I've yet to witness, firsthand, how Joe "Blades" Bausch dismantles a golf course. For that viewing alone, this day will be well worth the price of admission. Toss in an potential exhibition by "Iron" Mike Cirba...well, we'll really have a spectacle on our hands. Of course my wretched game will also be on display for comic relief.

Should be a great day. Hope a fine lot of fellow lads join the fray!

Cheers,
Kris

Kris, I'm thrilled you can make it and hope many others will join in.  I could see this starting a nice little tradition.

We might even get a few members from that somewhat more well known Wilson course to join us as well. Stay tuned.

Archie, where are you?  Matt Ward, you too!  And so many others.  Please join us.  Reply right on this thread so if we must add more tee times, we can earlier in the week.

JNC, Thanks for your help in making the times.  The Pines has 9 holes that are Flynn, about 6 from the Gordons, and 3 (6-8) I have no idea about.  I played it for the first time last year.  The Flynn holes (1,2, 12-18) are good, the Gordon holes (3-5, 9-11) have their moments.  All in all, my impression was it wasn't bad, but inconsistent.  Giving it a little TLC and $ for renovation would be a good thing, IMO.  There are some very good elevation changes in the land and good potential for a good golf course here.

There is a good, expansive practice area on site.

I feel that a more architecturally consistent and interesting, playable and memorable 18 in the Pines would provide visitors more of a reason to stay and play 2 rounds, or more, here, as opposed to choosing another area course if the Bay Course is not available.
I have a picture of Flynn's Pines nine (it was only 9, originally) with a liberal use of sand.

I am uncertain of Stockton's future plans regarding the golf courses.

Doug,

Thanks for the information on the Pines Course.  It's a little frustrating that the resort would list Flynn and Toomey as the only architects for the golf course, when the Gordons did some of the work as well.  Hopefully, the resort will see fit to resurrect the charm of the old Flynn layout and then translate that to the newer holes.  Either way, it is great for a resort to have two golf courses with roots in Golden Age architecture, even if they don't reach their full potential.  I can't wait to see the place next week.

Folks, we need more players for Sunday!  Sign up, enjoy some good times with GCAers, and play a Northeastern Ross/Wilson layout in February.  It's hard to ask for a better way to spend the day, really.

JNC,

The Gordon holes seem uninspired, IMO.  #3 is a flattish, mid-long iron par 3, #4 is a hard dog-right par 4 downhill, then downhill to the green.  There is potential to be a good risk/reward hole here, and #5 is a good uphill/downhill par 4, with an outstanding green site on a small knob.  #9 is ok, the lake takes driver out of some players' hands, good green site if I recall.  10 has a good elevated greensite on a hill.

Some of the Flynn is good, and some of the Flynn isn't.  If you look closely at the left side of #13, you can see grassed-in fairway bunkers.  14 and 15 were changed, as I understand it.  16-18 are all solid.

We had a great day yesterday at MEL. Joe and Kyle were not bashful about employing the ground game under extremely windy conditions. Apparently the WaWa convenience store chain is experiencing another strong quarter as Kyle Harris frequently leaves the Philadelphia area. Thanks to Joe, Jin and Kyle for the company.
