Kirk - that is one of the disadvantages, we are experimenting this winter on one area on our 17th by making the area GIR and giving the player the option of dropping in semi rough or using a plastic mat. It isn't too bad in the summer as the divoting soon repairs but it's the winter and sring when the divots notice.

George, as soon as I saw this thread title I thought of this photo.  Thank you for saving me the complication of posting it.  Paraparaumu Beach has an angry swell prevading most of its fairways that matches or reflects the true swell of the west coast of NZ that lashes the coastline not more than a couple of hundred meters from the edge of the course.

I was thinking #6 at Kingsley. From recollection, there is nary a level stance.

I have played many other courses featuring angry sea fairways but do not have much in the way of pictures.  This one from Dornoch is a bit reminiscent of the ideaL
