Do angry sea fairways in any way tend to result in angry little divot pockets?

Kirk - that is one of the disadvantages, we are experimenting this winter on one area on our 17th by making the area GIR and giving the player the option of dropping in semi rough or using a plastic mat. It isn't too bad in the summer as the divoting soon repairs but it's the winter and sring when the divots notice.

#4 at the Kingsley Club.  The fairway contours remind me of big swells bouncing off a break-wall and returning back towards the source...  very cool stuff.

Go to Google and look up the 17th hole at the Durban CC in South Africa, it looks as though you need to call out the Coast Guard.

I recall the first fairway at Carnoustie being quite wavy.

I think you have 18 different choices at Ballyneal but here is my favourite one, looking back down the fairway from behind the 8th green.

Angry fairways and even angrier greens!

Has no one mentioned number 7 at The Machrie yet?  For shame!  That fairway goes beyond mere angry seas and into perfect storm territory!

George, as soon as I saw this thread title I thought of this photo.  Thank you for saving me the complication of posting it.  Paraparaumu Beach has an angry swell prevading most of its fairways that matches or reflects the true swell of the west coast of NZ that lashes the coastline not more than a couple of hundred meters from the edge of the course.

I was thinking #6 at Kingsley. From recollection, there is nary a level stance.

I need to take some new pictures.  Most of mine are now a few years old.  My course fairways come about as close as a US Parkland course can come.  These pictures are from a few years ago and give some sense:

I have played many other courses featuring angry sea fairways but do not have much in the way of pictures.  This one from Dornoch is a bit reminiscent of the ideaL

5 at Elie is a good shout but 6 there even has rocks in the middle of the fairway to flounder on!
In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.
