« on: February 02, 2011, 06:58:19 AM »
I cant remember anyone posting this before ?

STV's YouTube page is worth a look, if only for two golf films.

Enjoy

Patric Dickenson tells us the history of the seaside town of Carnoustie and explains how it has become a haven for golf.

A one off documentary about the Old Course at St Andrews. This show explores the history behind the course, and we meet some patrons of the club over the years. The construction of the course is also explained.

Anybody figure out a way to save them ?

All usual methods fail.

Thanks for bringing these to our attention.  I watched the one about the Old Course.

What was interesting was that according to the old tom impersonator the real Old Tom never broke 80 on the Old course.  He states that Alan Robertson was the first to break 80 in 1857.  If that stat does not emphasise how much golf has changed then I dont know what would.  These days many hackers must break 80 everyday on the old course!

Ross

OTM did match Allan's best score (79) with Young Tommy beating both.

Thanks for the correction, do you know when Old Tom broke 80?

I am not sure of the accuracy but the show implied that the old course was in quite poor condition when old tom first became the greenkeeper.  Do you know if that was the case and was the conditioning any worse than other top courses of the time?
