Architecture's Best Hope ... (Warning; Potentially OT)
« on: January 19, 2011, 01:16:08 PM »
..would be to appoint Pat Mucci as executive director of the USGA.

Has anyone else had this notion?

Would Pat be the right man for the job?

Or, Would TePaul's Andy Williams good looks be a more gentler choice?

Anyone else with any suggestions, or, thoughts on who should fill Fay's shoes?

There's one thing for certain, a lot of questions would be asked.

Has to be David Moriarity.  After his post on the Myopia thread, its clear he has lots of ideas for cleaning up what he views as a worthless organization.  Let him put his money where his mouth is.

Seriously, I would think someone, how should I put this delicately...younger than Pat is required to bring the necessary energy to the job.  Sorry, Pat, but it is a big one.

Or how about you Jeff? The USGA could sure use yet another pathetic "YES" man, kissing the asses of the rich and pompous.

Patrick would be a very good choice, but that doesn't seem to be the way the USGA operates.

Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

David,

I think the perfect USGA guy would be a blend of upholding tradition and moving forward positively with new ideas.  I agree the USGA will look to their long line of established folks in the organization, almost guanteeing the first.  If he (or she) has a glimmer of new age thinking it will be a plus.

There's nothing more frustrating than someone who only asks questions so they can then tell you what the right answer is after they've ignored what you have to say.

Jeff, I don't see how someone younger could have the insights or connections that Pat has.

I wouldn't question his desire to make the sport as great as it use to be.

Maybe this thread was a lark, and truthfully, I expected it to have zero responses after the initial response was non-existent.

I doubt I would feel this way if I hadn't attended Pat's Mountain Ridge outing. Seeing how well he handled it all, and having read him for years, now, I stand by assertion that Pat would be the best we could hope for, if the architecture is ever going to be considered as great an influence, as I feel it has, in all matters of golf. It's past and future.

Scott,
It's that thought provoking style that Pat uses that would make him a good choice. Better than someone who thinks they have all the answers and dictates them.

David, I wouldn't question your intentions either.

Patrick's tenaciousness is what is needed.

Great call, but you'd have to allow for an increase in the publishing budget to add all that green ink....:)

Architecture’s best hope is to remember that the heart of the business is designing golf courses, period..

I would vote for Pat as long as he had Dan King as his partner.

Dan would simplify everything...
Don't touch the f'ing ball!!

Padraig would still be playing.
