Bill,
The Gorsemen will be in Scotland in August. If we had just one space to fill, do you pick Crail or Elie? Why? How many rounds do you have at each?
Thanks Bill,
Shane
Depends what you like but I'm relatively alone here in not being knocked sideways by Crail, but Elie's a tease and a test. 3 to 7.
Disclaimer: I'm a member of Crail Golfing Society and my eldest son is a member of Elie, which I am hoping to join. I play a lot of golf in the summer at both. I knew Elie well before I joined Crail and, at first, I would have agreed with this. However, as time passes, I have come to enjoy Crail more and more. I'd now probably say that Crail has higher highlights (3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 13, 14, 16) but the more mundane holes are more mundane (6, 15).
I love both and would probably go 5:5 with, if I have a slight preference, a very slight preference for Elie. Crail does benefit from its proximity to the water (you can see the see from every hole and a good player could hit a ball into the see from anywhere on the course, I suspect).
Cruden Bay should be in the mix and, in England, Kington is right up there. In fact, Bill, if you haven't played Kington you should find a way of playing it soon.
Of the other courses on the list I have played, yes, they're great fun.
