Anyone have a quality pic of the old 17th, new 18th hole at Congressional? I'm not having much luck with searches here or else where....

Thanks ahead of time guys!

I'm sure it's been commented on here before, but the flipping of the 10th (old 18th) green and tee, making it the new 10th hole, and thereby making the old 17th the new 18th, was one of the best major changes to a classic course I've ever seen.  These things often (usually?) get screwed up, but I really like this change.  And I think the new 18th (old 17th) is one of the best finishing holes in golf.

One of the best changes, to undo one of the worst.

Don't forget we can thank Rees for that 18th.
What does it matter if the poor player can putt all the way from tee to green, provided that he has to zigzag so frequently that he takes six or seven putts to reach it?     --Alistair Mackenzie--

The resulting routing is worst than ever.  After playing 10 you hike back down 11 to the tee.  It's another bandaid in order to facilitate keeping the current 18th as the finisher (it's a good finisher, too).

How is the hike from new #10 green to #11 (old #10) tee any worse than the hike from #9 green to old #10 (new #11) tee?  It's a wash in my opinion.  While I don't particularly like the new #10, I don't see it as a routing issue.  In some ways, it is a creative solution to the problem.  I just think the new hole doesn't look or feel like it belongs with the rest of the course.  If the new hole fit better, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

It's at least a wash from a routing perspective -- at least now you break up a long walk with a tee shot in the middle.  Also, the new 10 isn't more out of character than the old 18 (though both are out of character).  It also creates a great place to watch things like the shootouts at member-guests.

But the course would be better if they could find somewhere to squeeze in a 9th hole on a different part of that section of the property, rather than crossing the pond. . . .
