In the spirit of the thread, it really should be, but you don't get a body like mine if you aren't willing to go across town for local foods!  We should probably limit it to food at the club or course.

Two funny club food stories -

Old - While working for Killian and Nugent, they sent me to Briarwood CC to present on a new forward tee program without telling them their 25 year old associate was coming instead of a principle.  After the presentation, we headed to lunch where they told me how good the food was.  After they all ordered high end stuff, the club president leans over and tells me "I hear the grilled cheese is good!"

Newer- Jewish clubs are often known for great food.  A friend was a member of a Jewish club and always extolling the virtues of its food, as part of this tradition.  So one day, I asked him about his Passover Plans. Turns out, they let him in to fill the roles, but he was Catholic.

Mouth watering combinations guys!  You certainly know how to live. The one and only time I got close to these type of experiences was when I played my first  and sadly probably last game at Pasatiempo and then unwittingly had dinner at Hollins House restaurant that evening.  The experience will live with me forever.
Not too bad for my first go at the "Golf and Food Combo - whip it out exercise" methinks.

Oh, I love those spicy sausages!  But, for the best sausage/golf combo, you would need to play Inverness in Toledo, Ohio, and then go across town for Tony Packo's Hungarian Hot Dogs!

I will second this one..  though I can't believe the initial Chicago anywhere plus White Castle..  one would have to include many venues around Cincinnati and Skyline Chili fare.. an acquired taste..

I will always thank Adam C for the Wild Horse + Fried Chicken at North Platte Airport combo... perfect.

I did enjoy the burger on Ben's Porch, but I'd give a nod to the HUGE burger at the turn at Sutton Bay.

Didn't they hire away the milkshake guy from Castle Pines?

Jeff - in my imagination, I will one day start a morning in late October with a traditional english breakfast at Walton Heath, in the company of a very old member, and after playing 18 with him will have a steak and kidney pie and a pint of the local brew in the company of the club professional, sharing stories and histories; and then after playing 18 more with another old member, I would have late afternoon tea, with shortbread cookies and those little sandwiches, and tea and milk; before playing a final nine alone as the sun went down and then retiring to my rooms to freshen up and dress for dinner with the Secretary, which dinner would be a vegetable soup followed by rare roast beef along a carafe of their finest claret, and then coffee.  And then I'd move to the lounge to sit by the fire with a glass of bourbon and a book. I have no idea if that's the type of food Walton Heath has, but in my imagination it should!

Sounds perfectly appropriate, but you might have to settle for a single malt (Scotch) whisky instead of the bourbon!  And no ice!

And real ale with lunch?  A bottle of claret, I'd have thought.

Except the similar but superior experience at The Berkshire or, even better, Muirfield.

I want to think Wigler was there.  Where did we eat the night that King brought his Scotch tasting selections and Huntley told stories?  I would say that was the largest gathering of my life where I considered everyone in the room a friend.

And his IPA was fantastic!

We had 28 GCA'ers up to my house after golf at Barona Creek. The menu was:

64 tandori chicken wings
2 5lb whiskey soaked tri tips
3 4lb pork loins
3 4lb corned beefs

washed down with 15 gallons of beer
4 bottles of wine
3 bottles of whiskey

There were NO LEFTOVERS! This crowd can eat.

While in Phoenix, the combo of Papago and Honey Bear's BBQ is another excellent combo. Although not within walking distance from the course, Honey Bear's on Van buren is less than a 5 minute drive:

One of my favorite days is golf at Canton Brookside and dinner at nearby Baker’s Café.

I doubt many on the board know of this combo.  An excellent choice!

from whenever I get out to Oakmont: i'm looking at a picture of a sandwich I saved from Primanti Bros., which apparently is not far from the course...they "Shove cole slaw, fries and a mess of meat between thick slices of Italian Bread"!
