Mike

The 15th is THE hole which could have used the beach.  Instead, anywhere near the beach is rough and that is the best angle in.  Sure, it could be an environmental issue, but that doesn't make the hole any better.  Its as if he designed the hole to drive at the beach then play away from it, but at the least minute decided the beach was ugly or something.  Anyway, even if Dye wasn't allowed to build the primo hole, his poor aping of that hole doesn't get it.  As is its just a middle length par 4 legging left with a poor angle of approach from the left and a good angle of approach from the rough.   Nothing to write home about.

Why do you or whoever think this is an outstanding hole?

Matt

I am not saying these holes are poor.  I am saying that for a course of TOC's reputation and compared to the best par 4s, these holes are surprisingly average.

Ciao

With the PGA Championship approaching, I thought I would bump this photo tour of the Ocean Course at Kiawah Island.

This is an exceptional photo tour Joe. Many thanks for taking the time to compile this.
Watching the PGA on TV down here in Australia is so much better with your review alongside me!

Thanks M2.

During the rain delay yesterday I decided to recompile my big photo album of TOC where I 'culled the herd' and made a better (I think) figure showing the routing.  It is here:

Today I repaired all the broken links and made each photo clickable to a larger size.  Now back to grading final exams!   ;D
